Out of our 14 privately owned gliders 3 have owners that are current RC glider guiders and definitely at least 2 possible 3 other owners are ex RC glider pilots.

As a general rule we don't tend to tie our gliders down unless the next day is looking very good. So it is rig & de-rig every day. Rigged and de-rigged 6 last Sunday. Helps keep me exercised

Yes- next time I'll turn the radio down, close the air vent and get the camera settings right!

Speaking of RC vs full size, back in my instructing days I especially liked flying with the line kids. They were so enthusiastic and ready to learn. One summer a new kid showed up who seemed to fit right in. He was an RC sailplane flyer and had a flight-sim on the home comuter (back when flight sims were not very good). I got to give him not only his first lesson, but his first airplane flight. As usual for line kids, we flew late in the afternoon. In the preflight, he knew what the controls did, and even about adverse yaw. After some ground instruction we loaded into a 2-33 and took off into a dead calm sky. I'm not sure why I did it, but at about 1000 feet I let him take the controls. That kid flew the rest of the tow, all the way to 3000 feet! Off tow he flew like he had already done the pre-solo lessons. I was amazed. He did great that summer. His RC experience transferred right into FS flying. Unfortunately, he moved to Tennessee the next year and I lost track of him. I sure hope he is out there still flying full size and RC.

I got a 3.5 hour flight yesterday. 1.5 thermaling to get over to the ridge then the rest of the time flying around the ridge to see what was working.

I didnt have a camera with me, just my cell phone so the video quality is poor.

You don't have much of the green stuff out there do you?
I will try to get a bit more footage on my next sortie, hopefully at the weekend. This time I will try to remember to turn the radio down, close both air vents and have the camera on the correct settings!

Regards

Gordon

after driving an hour to get to the field, then an hour out in the 100 degree sun putting the ship together, then changing into my flying clothes and shoes, putting on the parachute, filling up my camel back,,,, etc , having to deal with a camera is the last thing on my mind. of course then I realize I wish I had it with me.

I could stay on the ridge all day. Each pass is different

My old DG100

I use to own that DG 100G. My first cross country ship. I put the Gizmo in it as I was a dealer for a short time. Also painted the nose, put the black glass laminate on the panel, and rewired the electrical system-it was a rats nest of wires. Nice flying sailplane. My longest flight was 411 km and averaged 108 km/h-good for gold distance. Fond memories.
