CNC Foam Core Tailless Flying Wing DLG SAL Design..

I have been experimenting with a lot of ideas lately, in an effort to make a cost efficient yet quality small DLG.. I would like to try making a flying wing dlg, but I have not done this before and I would like some guidance in this effort. To be specific, Plan form and airfoil selection and any other insight would be great. I think because of the simplicity of the flying wing, it would allow us to make something nice yet affordable.. Id llike to CNC the foam cores, and am going to post pics of the first experiment soon.. I was planning on CNC machining the trailing edges out of balsa wood.

Attached are pics of examples of how i'd like to go about things.. these are experiments i have started..

Very nice previous experiments. What CNC setup do you have? Would love to help with the design but too many other projects ongoing at the moment.

Maybe a basic plank design to start? Bill Evans came out with the "Simitar" series using a strait LE and a tapered trailing edge..

I am not an aerodynamics expert by any means....I'm having trouble picturing how a tailless flying wing would do anything but spin like a boomerang if thrown like a DLG

But I do like the idea......

This looks like a great glider.. Here is an example of a tail-less DLG, or flying wing DLG.. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1600404

That model still has a tail. You'll need a rudder to counteract yaw forces on launch, or the X-47B stabilization system.

I am not an aerodynamics expert either, but I like most do have a general feel for things however, the experts can optimize things properly.. It would be nice to get help with that so as to skip the guess work.. I have created an airfoil for the root and the tip to try out. its about 8% thick and I believe that the thickest point of the airfoil should be further forward then normal for the root. Then as it runs to the tip, transitions to a normal percentage.. There is also some reflex, but not too much.. these are the things, that it would be nice to get some good advice on. would make good use of the CNC machining of the foam cores..

yes this glider will have a rudder, vertical stab..

The way I machine these parts or wings for someone in CA that PM'd me, is by machining the top then, I have center alignment holes, that allow me to flip the foam and machine the bottom..

OK, now I'm with you. I figured a vertical tail or a big sweep combined with big "winglet" tails would be needed.

I've always liked that "SALSA" design; I've wanted to build something similar for a while

Ok, I just spent a half hr searching but there was a tailless DLG launches video of a flying wing a guy designed a few yrs back. My keywords must be all wrong while searching. It did have rather large winglets that doubled as launch blades. IMO flying wings dont read lift worth a darn.
