I used resin slot car gears in my HOR transmission before. It allowed for a small ratio change as well as more durable gears.
In order to use brushless motors you need to go through the whole stock bike and toughen it up. Even a mild set up will push the bike way beyond what the 280 and 300 motors with NiMh or NiCad ever did.

People are probably wondering why the metal gearset isn't preferred for the faster setups, and why even bother at all with the plastic gears. Personally I feel the metal gears aren't smooth, they hang up sometimes and end up getting destroyed.

How has the direct steering conversions been working? Is there a setup that works with the carbon fiber frame and hot racing front damper?

We did direct steering mods in the late 90’s. I still have the parts in my parts box I’m sure. It was a lot of work tweaking and figuring out how to make it work so it wasn’t so fast.

The optional steel gear set from Kyosho was brittle and would shatter in a basic crash. They could be a little rough as I remember. I still have a set of them too.

I have a bunch of HOR parts and most of the new kit in the box. I bought the single sided swing arm set in HK on the last day of one my trips thru there. I’d like to build a new bike with all the Atomik mods just for the nostalgia. Plus I have some GPV parts and old custom parts I’d like to build into the bike. Last time I handled a bike was around 2012!!

Heres some pics of my kyosho HORs.
The honda and suzuki are shelf queens but i run the other three
The aprilia rs125 rep i painted up last year and was originally a used honda nsr.
The kawasaki ive nearly finished and that used to be a very badly painted suzuki rgv500 that i got off ebay,
the shape lent itself so well to a ZX7R.
Ive made an alloy exhaust for the side of it so will mount that when i get chance and finish painting the rider

Mark

Rs125 is in this video
RC bike sesh (7 min 49 sec)
