The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing, unless it is the ensign responding to a salute from a ship of a foreign nation. This is sometimes misreported as a tradition that comes from the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, where countries were asked to dip their flag to King Edward VII: American team flag bearer Ralph Rose did not follow this protocol and teammate Martin Sheridan is often, though apocryphally, stated as proclaiming that "this flag dips before no earthly king."[2] This tradition was codified as early as the 1911 U.S. Army drill regulations.[3]

Not if you aren't an American. Other countries shouldn't care less whether we dip our flag or not. I couldn't care less what other countries do with their flags. I'd be offended if my country demanded other countries dip their flags to our government officials.

Is a non issue. Our flag code says it doesn't dip, and you can stuff it in your if you don't like it.

IMO, when you're a guest in a foreign country you should comply with the host's customs. makes sense to me but then nothing really makes any sense when it comes to americans and their precious flag.

i remember at age 6 asking my mother why we have to pray to a flag every morning in school...don't remember her answer but it probably didn't make any sense to me back then and probably wouldn't today either.

Just asking a question, no need to get all rude about it.
