first big boat/first working (hopfully) boat

very soon i will be starting work on a 48" gas mono. i need to know what would be good materials for making it. i was thinking pine frame and balsa covered in fiberglass for the outside, is this a good idea? here are the plans i am using: http://www.modelgasboats.com/forum/1...eep-vee/#17469
also i was wondering if anybody new where to get all the hardwhere.

Might I suggest you post this over in the racing boats - internal combustion forum. Not trying to get rid of you, just you may get more applicable info there. The construction techniques would be similar to scale but with the power and fuel issues people with specific experience would be better guiding you.
