Darrin - it looks like the boat has some sort of protective sheeting on the bottom, maybe to help it slide over the dirt and snow, you think that might be delrin or HDPE or something...?

Most airboats have derlin sheeting on the bottom to reduce friction and protect the aluminium hull from damage and wear. We have run em on city streets before during the Allison flood here in north Houston, faster than loading them on a trailer just to cross a couple of blocks of dry ground.

Yes on the sheeting. I should have molded the hull in black styrene but only had white with the thickness I needed. (I guess I wont be hitting much ice here in socal anyways)

Very cool "scooter", Capt!!

And like you said, probably won't be running over much sand in SoCal, especially out there on Catalina!! Avalon is a really fun place, but Two Harbors is my favorite spot!!

Started the cabin in thin styrene. Also got the rear deck installed with brass inserts.
The plan is to have the motor and esc attached to this deck and be removable as one module. I am also thinking of a cooling fan to blow air into the outrunner, I don't normally over complicate my models but think it is going to need some help as a pusher. Small squirrel cage under the deck with a tube running to the motor

Here you go Troy .......Cabin all blocked in and getting details. Waiting on a prop and some ideas for the motor mount. Plan on a brass tube structure mated to the dummy V8...

Not sure what the Coasties are using for power (I have seen everything from stock snowmobile motors (on small boats) to blown big blocks (Budweiser owns one), but you might want to make a 'motor' to hide the electric motor/speed controller. Possibly find yourself a static plastic kit (of a car) and bury the electrics in that.

The basic boat looks great!

These boats use a 600+ hp V8. I plan on scratch building the motor and sticking it on top and below the motor mount plate. Soldered it up last weekend and threw some paint on it. Big Dave, I found a Krylon color called "Dull aluminum" and it looks like a match and goes on real nice...Starting to look like the real thing. Triple rudders are next....
