Is there any way to keep something flying at a high altitude for a long time?

It's a dream I have from a long time. Is there any way to keep a few kg of things flying free without any control, at a very high altitude? I would use solar pv + satellite link to communicate with this thing.

NASA has been doing this for 15+ years

Pathfinder

"On September 11, 1995, Pathfinder set an unofficial altitude record for solar powered aircraft of 50,000 feet (15,000 m) during a 12 hour flight"

A big blimp is your best bet, but they are very sensitive to weather conditions.

That’s a very interesting article. It’s amazing that they have built so many propeller driven airplanes that will fly much higher than any airliners with the Helios HP01 flying at 96,863 feet.

Also some nice crash photos – LOL.

High altitude and long endurance ... without any control ...
high altitude is related to your design and your UAV's maximum ceiling, there are some ways to increase ceiling of your drone (you need to study some aerospace books and articles related to aerodynamics).
Use of Auto-pilot and stabilizer can help your UAS to control itself without your help in some cases.
For endurance ... again it depends on your design and your power plant.
