1/12 scale balsa Grumman Albatross

I wanted to wait for a bit before I started a build thread. My builds always seem to take longer than I think they will, so I wanted to have a good amount of progress done before I started a thread, so it doesn't end up dragging on so long. My hope is to have it done and it's maiden flight before the NEAT Fair in September.

I began this design earlier this year. I've been wanting to do a flying boat for quite some time (ever since I saw Ivan's Solent for the first time!). I like Ivan's simplified design and construction style, but I hate building over plans. So I decided to take a slightly different approach. This design is done in my typical Park Scale Models fashion where the parts are interlocking and self aligning.

After I drew up the 3D solid CAD model, I carved it up to create all of the parts. Once that was done, I passed it off to my buddy Mike (CaptMike) who did the somewhat tedious job of tabbing and notching all of the parts together. After some fine tuning, I created a cut file and started burning some wood.

So now...let the build thread begin!

Fuselage construction

I'll begin with the construction of the fuselage. I didn't really build it any particular order, but for continuity's sakes, I'll post pics chronologically for each structure. I'll add information about the build with each of the pics rather than having a long winded post.

I hate it when pushers like you come along and peddle this stuff that ruins us financially ;-).

How much? Where do I send my money? How fast can you deliver?

Fantastic job so far looking forward to seeing it fly.

Muahahahaha! LOL.
I'm hoping to have kits available some time this fall Tom. I haven't figured out the final numbers yet. I'm doing things a little differently on this kit compared to my other kits. There's going to be a base kit which will just be the laser cut wood. There will then be an optional hardware package (wing tubes, landing gear mounts, magnets, hinges, control horns, etc...) and a sheeting package (sheeting for wings, fuselage bottom, stabs, and laser cut planking for the fuselage bottom, cockpit/battery hatch and tip floats).

I do know the price for the base kit is going to be $319.99. There are nearly 50 sheets of laser cut wood and almost 3-1/2 hours of laser time per kit.
