Got the batteries...have spent the day soldering EC3 connectors to the batteries and finishing up the plane...almost dark and still have yet to charge the batteries. Ice forecast for Thursday...ugh. Maybe Friday but I'm not holding my breath. Oh well, it gives me time to brush up my (remedial) 3D skills on the sim...

Excellent. Good to hear. Calling for snow the next couple days here as well. Going thru withdrawals. Lol.

Finally got to fly it...for about a second. An attempted hand-launch ended up with the nose in the dirt. The culprit? Stupid rookie mistake. Apparently, in my excitement, I only put two screws into the motor mount where it screws into the motor itself. Ended up only bending the motor mount, but it still leaves the plane unflyable. Gonna go see if the LHS has one that matches mine, but if they don't ill have to order another motor, as twisted hobbys doesn't offer just the mount. *sigh... and today was virtually windless...

After so many crashes I stopped counting, 2 motors killed, 3 servos stripped and god knows how many grams of welders, foam tac, epoxy and ca I finally decided to retire mine. One too many flat spins off a blender left the front end and balsa/carbon skeleton a pile of splinters and shredded foam. Already ordered a new one . Despite its quirks I couldn't ask for a better windy day beater, or quickie fix plane.

Hey all...quick update.
So, when I nosed over this plane, I bent the motor mount. I went to my lhs with the motor and mount. Upon inspection, the Guy there pointed out a major flaw of my discount motor: the screw holes are off center. Unless I bend the mount to match, I can't use the motor. Just a few minutes ago, I placed my order for the 72g omega from 3DHS. Hopefully I'll finally get to fly this plane. All I have to say is this: Lesson learned.

Just a quick question: what size spinner should I get for this plane, should I ever decide to get one?
Thanks

I believe it's a 1 1/2" - 40mm spinner.
....just confirmed it is 40mm.

Update...I got my new motor today, and wouldn't you know it, it is missing a screw! I emailed 3DHS and sent them the same picture as below. After my last little issue, I'm not even going to try and fly it until every screw is in place. Arrghhhhh!! I'm NEVER going to get to fly it! And wouldn't you know it...great flying weather today. Guess I'm stuck flying the super cub for now...

Look inside the motor, I've always found them there

Quick question: Should the motor have a tiny bit of play on the mount, or should it be solid? Mine rattles around a little bit.

Once you tighten the 4 screws good it should be solid to the X mount.
Play or rattle-ling around is never good.

OK thanks. I guess I'll be tightening screws...
