That is a beautiful job bsbauman. On thing that impressed me was not seeing any connection wires. Nice neat job.

Update: The build slowed down due to a death in the family. The plan was for this plane to be ready for Wally's Squadron, Summersville WV by Aug 18th. That won't happen. So to be ready for Wally's I am building two foamys and testing some of the new gear and techniques I hope to use in the Kadet.

After Wally's I will get back to the Kadet and have plenty of time to finish it up nice.

I am sorry to hear of the loss and my best goes out to you and your family.

Good decision on putting the build on hold, after all the hours you will eventually have in this project, you will be happy you did not rush anything

I built this foamy to have for Wally's. It uses the RGB controller I plan to use later in the Kadet.

Time to get back to work on the Kadet.

My friend gave me this motor to use. I checked it out and put a new prop adapter on it.

EFlite Power 46 with EFlite 60A ESC.

Attached the firewall with 30min epoxy. Drilled and installed the blind nuts for the motor mounts.

Since this is a dedicated night flyer, I am not going to make the wooden cowl. If anything I will try to find a fiberglass cowl I can light up from the inside.

That Power 46 is a beast, you will like it. What batts and prop do you plan to use?

I have a Power 46 in a Sundowner 50, on 6s with 10x10 prop- setup has been rock solid for 2 plus years and run hard... it will do about 90-95mph level, when using high C batteries.

I won't need ultimate power so I will start with 4S and maybe a 10X6 prop.

Which one is aileron again?
Just FYI..

I recently learned that the catalyst added to epoxy to speed the cure actually weakens the bond and the epoxy. So, always use very slow cure epoxy when you need maximum strength.

Yes I always use 30 minute to join wings or other high stress joints. 5 minute for everything else.

Now that the firewall is attached, the sides have to be sheeted. Since this is a night flyer, I used a leather punch to put some holes for light to shine thru and to lighten it a bit.

Laid the fuse on each side flat, weighted, and glued with thin CA. Trim the edges off flush with the fuse.

I decided to leave the front sheeting off. Let more light out from inside.

Very wise move to cut all those lightening holes... I have seen others disappointed when they have spent much time lighting up the inside, only to find no light escapes the fuse through the sheeting... I cannot imagine that kind of frustration!

You are on a great track, keep up the good work!

Thanks BS!

I need some input on the next stage. The airframe is mostly finished, a clean canvas for a night flyer masterpiece. Considering how to do the LEDs. From all the pics I have looked at, white covering lit from the inside seems to be the way to go.

The fuse should be easy. White covering lit with white lights from the inside. The tail feathers will have to small pieces of LED strip or individual LEDs.

The wing has options. Cut notches in the top of the ribs and run LED strip, like on the glider, or light each "box" of the wing structure separately. I can use different colors and my RGB LED controller can make patterns. I wish I had made the wing tips out of 3mm depron. Then they could be lit from inside.

Besides LED strip I have some Cree lamps, used to make flashlights. Very small and super bright. Also I go some 3 and 5 watt assemblies to experiment with and this other little component.
