Build Log

Chris Craft 36" Commander 1954 a Dumas kit.

Building this one right now, it is BIG and sturdy. And should handle very good. It is going to be named Betty Boob after my grandma. We call her Bob, but her name is Betty

Nice to see that you opened the windows. The blocked and blacked out windows were initially a disappointment when I first looked at the instructions, but I have since seen where builders such as yourself have opened them up. Do you have any comments on how you did it?

Just got her out for a ride. She handles like a dream, BUT need more power. It is basically my own fault, i soaked her inside in glass "to make her strong" and yes you need a 50 cal barret to punch a hole in her bottom. I really do not think (NOW) that it is necessary to make her that strong. But the "damage" is done so no weeping. Just got to find more powerful motors.

Wish I wasnt so lazy to build my own.

Surprising not powerfull enough, how much does this boat weigh loaded ?

Looks like you are using the recommended motors from MACK ...

Yes i am using the MACK motors, cant remember the weight, but will get it. My dad is building the same boat, but not as heavy as mine, it is going to be interesting to see how well his perform, when he is done building it.

If those are the 5045 motors they should be OK for power ...

Is there any friction in the drivelines ( can you easliy turn the props by hand with the couplers loosened ) ?

I have purchased an 90% complete Commander, it has MACK suffing boxes, they are VERY hard to turn but I think the guy who assembled them has forced the collar tightly against the tube )...
