ALIGN T-REX 450 PRO V2 3GX feathering shaft snap off in flight

Another problem with Align heli, this time its the feathering shaft on the trex 450 pro 3gx snap off in flight. Metal piece of screw still in shaft. Anyone have solution to this problem?

Dont tighten the screw down to tight.
Just snug it up good and let the locktite do its Job.

Actually, screw was not very tight, as I used a lot of locktite.

lol the torque specs for a 8mm head bolt on a 02 honda cbr F4i is only 8 inch pounds and 1/4 turn Yet people think the screws on these Heli's has to be 20 foot pounds

Sorry art250 about the screw breaking allot of the time it is caused by people cranking them down to tight.
Was this a new screw or a used one?

It was a brand new screw from the kit.

atr250, sorry to hear about your crash. Align screws quality not very good and even some poeple say it's soft and weak. It all depends on quality control.

Usually, I replace all my Trex size 550, 600 and 700 with class 12.9 alloy steel. Those class 12.9 alloy steel screws are strongest and have highest strength. For size 450.. I just replace those screws /w 12.9 for rotatry parts.

Actually I used rcscrewz kit before and they are not bad but still broke off 1 to 2 screw when I serviced bearings after 280 total flights. Now, I feel more comfortable with class 12.9 cause they are strongest, so far no screw failure after 350 flights, even I service bearings periodically.

Thanks, will shop for some 12.9 alloy steel. Was wondering, anyone have experience with using titanium screw?

High tensile bolts will often have their strength class stamped on their head: 8.8, 9.8, 10.9, and 12.9. Anything over 8.8 is not suitable for replacement with anything other than the same (or higher) class of bolt.

although Ti bolts can be as strong as mild steel bolts, they are no substitute for high tensile steel bolts. syntace titanium bolts are no substitute for bolts above 8.8 strength.

my 2 cents

Too much locktite is bad to, just enough to coat the thread.

Tarot shafts are threaded deeper and come with longer screws and bigger screw head. I think (haven't tested) they are stronger.

The ALZRC 450 Pro feathering shafts come also with with longer screws than the Copterx and HK versions. I've swapped my bolts for the longer ones on all my 450s, just in case. I've already had one screw let go in mid air, do not want to experience that again.

I guess this shows again that more expensive is not always better. Align really needs to improve the screw quality. The frame screws on the 450pro is really soft, and strips so easily with the original Align 1.5mm hex driver. My cheap Turnigy 1.5mm fits much better (measured both and the Align is more like 1.3mm than 1.5mm).
Atleast the clones use 2mm frame screws, which help a lot.
