I haven't been able to get the controller working yet, probably my fault. But I did check the 6mm motor to see if it would trigger a Hall and it does, at least it triggers the hall I'm using for an RPM meter. You all should understand that I'm just making an on-off controller, no throttle control, no BEC, no nothin' but on-off for 1 Li-poly.

I am currently doing a design that uses an ATTINY micro and discrete MOSFETS. If there is interest, I should be ordering PCB's in the early part of the year. The good thing about discrete FET's is that you can replace them with better ones as they become available. The board as designed should be able to handle 3 amps/phase. The baord will be able to handle 3 or 4 phase motors(steppers). Let me know if yiu are interested.

I don't know about 3 coils. The circuit I came up with is single phase but I was going to lower the coil resistance and add a second coil at 180 degrees. A speed control would be fairly easy to do by putting a PIC between the HE and the H bridge to change the timing according to the input pulse from the receiver.

Mike,

The magnet came from an early Ruijsink actuator. Our Plug n Play actuator has a large magnet with a hole in it too.

to use 2-3 or more coils you just need to have the same no of control circuits ie 1 for each coil , can you post your circuit ?
as we are looking at a similar system to try on the small b/l motors driven from a standard brushed controler .

It works


I finally have a working controller based on the Philips 5144 chip. I still need to add a DC-DC so it will run on a single Li-Poly. I have a Micro Chip DC-DC I'll add to the back of this board. As it is now it weights 1.6 grams without wires. Remember that this is for a bit radio so there is no throttle or BEC.

any tips from your experiance on getting the chip going with dif motors ?

The test of a micro motor and a controller was begun. PIC12F629 are used for the controller. It only checked rotating. PWM control cannot be performed yet.

Very cool! It looks like it's a lot simpler than the motor I made so it should be a lot lighter. It also looks like it would be very easy to build.

Here is the schematic for my little single phase motor. The original did not have the PIC in the circuit. This was the "next step" that I never took. The HE just drove the H bridge in the working unit shown above.
