Folsom? Don't fly close to the prison!

There's a cool narrow lake up between Yuba City and Grass Valley called Englebright that would be a cool flight or hey, why not do the American River Canyon. I spent my 20's in Carmichael going to Sac State and doing a LOT of exploring! If only I had a GoPro and FPV then...

Hey Mark,

Wow what a small world! I just graduated from Sac State last May. That is really funny that you say the small lake because the lake with the dam that I was talking about is EngleBright, I fly somewhat close to Beale AFB. I live in Grass Valley which is about 30 minutes from Yuba City, so its great flying out there by EngleBright.

What are you doing up in Washington?

Cheers,

Any pics of that orange plasti-dip on the wing tips?

I need to get some color on my Penguin!
Here ya guys go! I had neon orange enamel on before and really didn't like how easy it came off. The plasti-dip is 100 times better, I also did the canopy, tail boom ring, and vertical stabilizer in plasti-dip black. You only need to put a light coat on to, so it keeps weight down.

Quick Canopy mount mod

Hi,

I add a nice feature on my FPV penguin, it's a quick release canopy like on the pic below :

Rear :

Front :

It would be nice if it was factory done ;-)

Nice one Cedric. I like it very much and may just adopt your aproach. And agreed on the factory bit. Hopefully as this plane grows in numbers and support and it goes through each gen tweaks like this are adopted as the norm from factory.

How heavy are those aluminum studs? I wonder if they could be made from nylon... I like the setup, however!

It's 6mm diameter light aluminum with M3 hole on the side that touch the little wood plate.

Nylon should be ok.

Did you make them, or are they OTS from somewhere?

My penguin should be here tomorrow. Just now jumping on this thread. I am gonna be running 5000mah 45c 4s, so here to do some motor research as i am not using the Finwing motors. Suggestions welcome but thinking something along these lines:

NTM Prop Drive Series 35-30 1100kv / 380w

9x6 - 14.8v - 355W - 24A

A 2814 1100kv is my other thought, but I am thinking it may be a little too small for my taste... (315W)

HaHa, That's funny!
A job brought me to Seattle in 1981 when I still thought rain was cool and unusual...
(I'm working on getting back though, possibly Santa Rosa )

Well, I ordered the ARF version with the 2815 motor and have read the entire thread. Lots of good hints so I am ready to go when it comes.

I just glued in magnets, took me 10 mins and both the foam canopy and clear cover can be individually removed/replaced in seconds.

Of course it's easy, but autopilot with compass doesn't like magnet !

yes, see your point. BTW I'm just getting ready to install my Eagle Tree gaurdian expander. Anybody know if this uses compass, or does it only use gps, gyros and accells? Hopefully I don't have to take my magnets out. I really like the ease of removability.
