Installed the new motor mount/arms today. I did not drill the lightening holes because I figured the weight savings would not amount to much at this stage. Once the concept is working, I will revisit weight reduction on the entire aircraft. Learned something new today, that being, when the flaps are down, the prop wash will cause the aircraft to move forward. Which in theory, should be great for the transition to airplane mode.

After each test, I do a complete inspection to see what I need to modify or prays myself for a job well done. Well, I noticed from this last test, the servo horns are the weak link, so I order these puppies. Alumimun is becoming my building material of choice. Picked these Aluminum servo horns up on eBay for a really good price.

I wanted to find out why this VTOL have a tendency to creep forward and thought it was related to the flaps being extended. What I learned from this round of testing is, I need to head to the airfield where there is more room. She does not fly like my other copters and have a different set of flight characteristics. I will place testing on hold until receipt of the new Servo horns because that is the weak link in the control system.

Installed a new set of servo horns and adjusted the control linkage, she still required some PID tuning especially on the Yaw controls. After we have successfully had done a forward flight test, we will start the search for Ducts to encase the props.

looks a lot more stable! have you tried an HVAC place? Heating and air conditioning Or 5QT icecream containers for Duct material?

Made some adjustments to the PID Settings and minor adjustments to the mixing. Went to Home depot this morning looking for something to make the ducts from but came home empty handed. I will take time in search search for the right material, In the meantime, stay tune. This will be the last backyard test done, the next video will be from an airfield with the fan ducts installed.

one man's trash

maybe these fans would be good?

Just saw one of these fans at my buddy's place and thought maybe it'd be better than the smaller computer fans... I might order one for tests as I am in the process of building a tri and a quad of my own and want to fly safely with folks around.
