EPS aka Beer cooler foam. 90% of the UM and UMX planes are made from this.

I flew mine without and with the gear. after flying it without, it seemed a bit lacking on power with it.

From now on its gear off for me!

Only bad thing is grass landings will take their toll on the foam intake.

Yes, without LG, that's a vulnerability.

Even with a good flare, this bird tends to take it on the chin.

I've added scotch tape reinforcement, which helps......a little.

I thought about painting a thin layer of Elmer's from the tip about 1" back on the underside.

I used Polycrylic and .5oz Fiberglass. Only sign of wear is on the actual intake lip. Not even a scratch on the rest of the bottom!

Yeah but I don't have access to a vac-u-former to make the guard. and shipping is crazy to have you ship them Stateside.

I have had pretty good luck with the glass and polycrylic.

Neither do I - I used 90mm clear battery heatshrink over a plaster cast I took of the nose.

I was going to reinforce my Mig nose with finishing resin only (no glass), but before I got round to it this happened. I had 2 good flights in the morning, but I got greedy and went for another flight in the afternoon when it was more windy.
Somehow I managed a perfect nose in. Straight down full power perpendicular to the ground. The Mig actually bounced!

And after repairs. Amazing how well this foam repairs. I dont think any amount of resin would have survivde this crash, makes me question the value of nose protection.

One aileron servo wire came loose. It was a pain to solder back on, solder would just not stick to the contact, even though I used 63/37 lead solder which flows really well.

Yeah no nose protection would have saved that from happening. Holy crap.

Nose protection is intended to help prevent minor nicks and abrasions caused by normal landings without the gear. Nothing light enough to allow flight will save it from a one point arrival.

completely agree. I wish E-flite built it with a plastic intake lip, at least that way it would have scratch protection, and the foam behind it could be rebuilt in a major crash.
Hopefully they will do that next time round.

Whoa, nice repair, did you use the "hot water" method with the nose? Sorry to hear 'bout her going in nose first, but your repair looks nice!
