Pictures from Last Thursday....

We had a great turnout. Several B-17's, a couple of B-25's, and several fighters on the ramp.

Plane Crazy Saturday-Mojave Air & Space Port, CA

On Saturday, Sept 15th, the Apollo B-17/Bomber Squadron supported the monthly Plane Crazy Saturday Event which featured Model Aviation. Also participating were the Muroc Model Masters at Edwards AFB, CA and the Bear Valley Springs RC Club. Approximately 75 models were on display of various types and lots of great pilots. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.

My good friend, Steve Wells passed away on Aug 23, 2012 and his widow Grace came out to see the R/C B-17s on display as a tribute. Steve was a B-17 Radio Operator who bailout of of B-17 Moonlight Serenade after two engines were on fire from flak damage. Steve evaded capture in occupied France for six weeks. RIP Steve! You will be greatly missed.

Best Regards,

The Apollo field B-17 Squadron was out in force again this morning. The highlight of the day was meeting 94yo Al Olivari, who flew aboard a B-17 as a navigator with the 94th. He happened to be down at the field and got to see us flying our B-17's.

We got a chance to speak with him and he related some of his war-stories aboard the Flying Fortress. Al flew 26 missions. It was great to meet him and experience "living history" directly from one of our WWII heroes.

Here are a few photos taken from today. Also, one of our members did a unique "Stars and Stripes" paint job on the underside of his plane as you'll see in the pictures....pretty cool!!
