If I can fly this 400m and back I would be very happy

the biggest problem is keeping it from flipping when you race forward and then figuring out orientation when turning around. i have a v911 radio with er9x firmware that can be set just below the flip point which helps a lot.

You mean you can see the quad well enough at 1200 feet (that's 4 football fields stacked back to back) to bring it back? (Did you have binoculars?)

easy with fpv like archilles mentioned in his post. video range becomes the issue. those tiny vtx dont excel in that area but have been known to go 2km on 10mw. and i did bring up the issue of orientation. turns out not that hard with leds after sun sets though.

Im not too worried about flipping,, as I am using a 9x
I also am not too worried about the video link as I am using a 200mw vtx with specially designed antennas (good for more than 2kms on my plane)..
Funnily enough I'm more worried about altitude (not getting too low but getting too high).. I noticed in the v9292 when flying fpv it can get high very quickly and u can't see it until its too late... Makes it hard to come down...

Hi Achilles.
I saw your project when you were still trying to keep weight low.
Did you post anywhere details on it now that it's finished and working?
I'm starting to do the same.
Thanks.

The current configuration is as follows:

V929 v1r2 08/06
Gws props
600mah turnigy battery
200mw vtx from foxtech
10g CMOS camera
Custom long range antenna
Custom connectors
150mah 1s fpv battery.
Auw is 83g including all batteries and mounts. Flight time is 8:30, of stable hands free flight. This was the objective..

When I started the auw was 106g! It did not fly well.
I started shaving weight off the quad and the fpv system, and ended up bringing it down to 83g. I can probably pull of another gram or so.
I managed to pull of close 15 or 16 grams of the quad and the rest off the fpv system.
I pulled of weight from the quad as follows:
No canopy
No motor holding mounts
No landing gear, replaced with lighter plastic stilts
Removed 2 screws of the board
Removed all plastic plugs on the board
Removed heavier wiring and replaced with lighter gauge wire soldered directly on the board.
Removed battery holder and replaced with Velcro
Removed bracing struts from the main frame.
Removed the circular plastic in the main frame on two sides (the other sides are used to mount camera and vtx)
Shaved motor arms of all excess plastic.

I'll post pics as soon as I can get them off my phone

Thanks. I look forward to see pictures. I have to choose between 929 and 949 for fpv. 949 looks more stable and has less wobbling.
How long does the 150 battery last? I was thinking about a 100mAh battery.

From the reviews.. It seems the v949 is better than the equivalent 8plug board... Not sure how the older boards compare to the v949 tho... The v929 does not wobble now... Especially with the gws props..
The 150mah lasts long enough .. Around 15mins... A 100mah would do fine

Tri-Quad-Hexa-Octo-copters!!
Hi Dave,
Am I understanding correctly that you loaded some modified er9x firmware on a V911 Tx?
Cheers,
Jim

Archilles do you have a sample of the video output from your fpv for us to look at? What is the approx. cost of the fpv set up? (Sorry if that's been answered previously.)
