I also maddened my Calypso today. I'm really impressed with the way it flys. Not impressed with the junk rudder servo right out of the box. I replaced it and it was ready to fly. Can't wait to get it in the air again.

Thanks for the warning. Thankfully the Hitec HS-55 is a drop in replacement. $8.00 ea at my LHS.

I got a pair hoping to put flaps on the bird. But with the help of my radio I setup flaperons and I'm very happy with that setup. I will keep the hitec servos for when the flyzone servos start giving up.

30 minute flights!


I went to the field after work today.
Had three 1300 mAh batteries.
Had three flights: 18", 20" and 35" mins
No sweat. Wind was 2-10 MPH

EXCELLENT!!!

The prop being 9x5, a fairly high RPM motor, and on 3 cell - I'm amazed it comes with an ESC as low as 18 amps and a 15c battery. Does it fair ok? Doesnt get hot? I'm still learning a lot about props so could you guys explain to me? Seems like a coarse pitch and big diameter for low amp esc is all! Thanks a lot I'd appreciate some explanation

I didn't even try the standard ESC. I put it aside and I'm using an Scorpion 15V 35A ESC with a built-in Switching BEC. I cycle three batteries on this model: two ThunderPower 3S 1350 mAh and one BPHobbies Cheetah 3S 3000 mAh.

Maybe an overkill but makes me feel better. However other People report fairing ok with the standard ESC and batt... but my question is how "long" will it last working OK.

I put the stock esc in a drawer too.


I'm using a CC T-bird 36. No worries.

Thanks for the insight guys. I know that my AXN on 3 cell and 6x4 prop pulls about 20 amps. Is it the fact that the Calypso's motor is about 1000KV less than the AXN, that makes its 18amp esc survive? Just checking my knowledge!

The windings,etc of the motor are such that it doens't pull more than les than 18. will have to get specs to know exactly why

Are kits now shipping with the V2 fuselage, or are you still shimming the stab per earlier posts? Just wondering, I'm getting ready to order the ARF version.

while I had to trim up for gliding I didnt' have to shim anything. how can u tell if u have a V2 fuse

Got mine from Tower Hobbies last week, it appears to be V2. Did not need to shim. At full throttle need to hold in some down elevator.
