My calypso has been drafted to serve as a buddy-box training aircraft for a bunch of cadets from the Civil Air Patrol on Saturday!
I better get to the field on Friday and maiden ths bird before the kids get it.

Flew my Calypso for the first time this morning. Used a 1500ma 3 cell battery. Balanced it on the carbon spar. I had a friend launch the first flight. After reading the problem with the stab causing the a possible nose dive I was ready to give it up elevator. I gave it about ĺ throttle and told my friend to launch. Well it flew straight with a nice climb. Got it up about 200 feet and turned off the motor. A very nice flat glide. Then after a couple minutes gave it full throttle. Climb was quite fast a steep, needed to give it a little down elevator. Did a few more climb out for a total flight time of about 16 minutes then landed.

Installed another battery a little more towards the nose and launched it my self, no problem. Again a number of climb outs and a uneventful landing. Both flights lasted about 16 minutes. I recharged both batteries one took 529 ma the other 545 ma.

Very happy the model, canít wait for an afternoon with some thermals.

Came home to find my Calypso had arrived. Took a quick peek at it and it looks pretty good. Anything I should know before I fly it?

When u screw the tail in make sure screw is in all the way. Had to keep turning the screw for a long time.

Make sure stab us seated right . Read above about incidence issues.
Make sure u have the flap linkages ready. The r special because of the diameter of threaded rod and the way the horn glues to the styrofoam.

Regarding the tail screw... I have found that I have to check it is tight, before flying for the day because (at least mine) loosens with time. So a little thread locking (the blue one, not the red) might be in order...

Wow!
I am glad you mentioned that. I wouldn't imagine that the low vibration of the electric motor be enough to affect that screw.

I wanted to balance the prop. But having read the horror stories about the quality of the prop I'm afraid to unscrew it from the motor unless it gets damaged.

I have good quality Aeronaut folding props. But I will give the stock prop and motor a chance.

Finally got a chance to start putting the plane together last night. hopefully I'll finish tonight:

Warning again. Unsecure screw in the stab has ruined my maiden.

Check the elevator and rudder servos. It wouldnt hurt to put a little more glue on them to make sure they dont come off. I have had this happen before on another glider of mine and was having to hold full up elevator just to try to keep the plane level. I was barely able to land it. lol

Video from yesterday, nice windy day, around 10mph then it picked up to around 15-20mph (according to my weather app). This and battery dying caused a harsh landing. GoPro mounted ripped off the wing along with part of the wing, lol. No other damage.

Maidened my calypso
Awesome.
Warning: NOT A BEGINNER plane.
The recommended throws are too much for a beginner.
Needed significant trim up with the motor off.
13 min flights using 50% of battery without even trying hard.
Hard to handle on 12+ MPH wind
Lots of fun for INTERMEDIATE pilot.
I'm glad I got this.
Spent weekend training beginners none could handle plane without a lot of help.
On the other hand the ones on the Bixler had less issues.
