Swept Forward Wing SU 47 (Steady Vertical Roll) Must See

SU - 47 (Sukhoi) - Version 2

This is my new version of SU - 47. It’s the same plane posted on threat https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1645877, but with some changes.

The changes are:

It has KF airfoil n.º 4 for aerobatics (top and bottom), has no canards, and It has got just one vertical rudder.

The airfoil KF number 4 is actually very good, it definitely worth the extra weight!

This plane was intended to be just an experience, but it turned out to be very agile and precise in 3D aerobatic maneuvers.

More 3D aerobatics in the video below. Please notice the steady vertical roll at 1’:58’’ and at 2’:17’’. I can assure you that this maneuver is very difficult and demanding for the plane to achieve it.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Good flights!

Steady Vertical Rolls Explained (in the beginning keep always three security heights, in this way you can add power and pull up to safety and try again):

- Came straight and level at about 1/4 of power (this way you are flying slow and stable), pull up hard, when the plane is almost at vertical ease up the pitch stick and add power (about 3/4 of power, note: this maneuver is not made at full throttle. If you add full throttle the plane will not came stable and it will go in any other direction, and maybe crash). When the plane is at a vertical position apply left stick to make a left steady vertical roll. You can also do a right vertical steady roll, but the left one is easier because the torque of the motor is helping you. At all time, make small rudder adjustments. When you have full confidence in you and in the plane and you understand entirely how it behaves, begin to lower your entry altitude till you make it about two or three meters from the ground. It is an amazing and impressive maneuver to perform a few feet from the ground!

I know, this easily said than done. But try it several times and I can assure that you also are going to make it. Have persistence! If you crash, pick up the plane, repair it in the field and give it another try until you make it. Don’t ever give up, and always have with you tooth sticks and glue for quick repairs at the airfield. Do not wait until you arrive at home. If you do so, you will waste precious time and your learning curve will be slow.

At all times, be sure to fly safe and away from persons and animals. Have confidence and trust your skills.

Detailed pictures and plans SU - 47 (Version 2)

SU - 47 (version 2) Detailed pictures with dimensions/ Plans

I’m posting today some detailed pictures of my SU-47 with the dimensions. This is a really simple plane to build and it’s different because it has Swept Forward Wings. It looks really great in the air, it flies great (amazing 3D aerobatics - videos above) and it definitely is a turning heads at the airfield. If you don’t like the extreme maneuverability and pitch sensitive, just make a smaller elevator (the ailerons may have the same dimensions, as they don’t interfere so much in the flight because they aren’t in the prop wash).

Give it a try, I think you will like it!

Sorry for the poor quality of the design, but I think that this photos are understandable and logical. I’m still learning how to use ‘Google Sketchup’.
