Attention to all you Hand Launch, Discus Launch, F3K pilots

Attention to all you Hand Launch, Discus Launch, F3K pilots, the Eastern Soaring League is coming to the Long Island Silent Flyers field, Syosset, NY, on August 4 and 5, 2012. We have a large field with plenty of room to fly.

This will be the fourth HL/F3K contest weekend in the ESL hand launched glider contest series, contests 7 and 8. Contest 1-4 were held in Maryland with 24 pilots having flown so far. Contests 5 and 6 in the series will be in Massachusetts with more pilots racking up season scores. Then the ESL HL/F3K division moves to Long Island, New York for contests 7 and 8. All told there will be 14 contests in the ESL HL/F3K series this year with the season ending in Wilson, North Carolina at the East Coast Hand Launched Glider Festival. ECHLGF. Fly with the ESL and fly with some of the best in the sport.

In order to qualify for season standings and awards you need to fly in 5 of the 14 ESL contests. Your top 5 scores count to your end of season standings. If you fly more than 5 then you can replace a poor showing with a better score. So if you have not flown any of the ESL contests so far, you still have time to get in your 5 and qualify for the end of season awards.

If you would like to fly the ESL contest at LISF in NY, please register here:

We look forward to flying with you.

Best regards,

Club is gearing up for this great Hand Launch contest. The field is large, the sky will be blue and we hope to have a large number of pilots.

If you need a place to stay for the contest you can take a look here:

Your long range forecasts must be better than ours. Or are you just saying that the sky above the clouds will be blue? What if it's one of those thunderstorms that get above 60,000 feet? I hear that somewhere around 60k to 70k feet, the sky turns black.

BTW, did you follow that huge one on your way home yesterday? I chased it for maybe 4 hours and caught up in CT. It appeared to be VERY tall.

For this contest, we have had more good days than bad. It is highly likely we will have good weather repeats itself.

A request was made to lengthen the duration of the contest.

We will now be flying with no round starting after 6PM on Saturday and no round starting after 4PM on Sunday. They wanted more bang for their buck and we aim to please.!

More fly'in is more fun!!!!
