iīm scratch building it so I havnīt done the air frame yet the fuse is esentially a stick and I have yet to start the wing and the tailplane but anyway I need to get some more balsa for the wing so that will take a while to get sorted and does any one have any advice on wether to put dihedral on the wing or not, and did the original slow stick had any dihedral and if so how much?
Iīll upload more pics soon
cheers noah

Remember to build light.... Don't glob on the glue, cut holes where balsa isn't needed, and use geometry to your advantage. Triangles and tension/compression systems are your best friends.

Also make sure stuff lines up correctly so you don't have awkward edges poking through the covering. Be CRAZY with the sandpaper... but not too crazy.

Or... Yeah, instead of typing up a compendium of my past building mistakes, I'll just let you enjoy the smell of balsa dust. Uh, don't breath too much in. Makes ya cough.

thankīs Iīve had to cough alot of times while sanding, but then who hasnīt
thanks for the advice and yes I will try to keep it as light as possible - it shouldnīt become to heavy because itīs nearly all wood
cheers noah

No, see, you want it to be mostly air with a little bit of wood in between How do you make a fishing net? Sew a bunch of holes together,

Sounds like you'll be fine, though. We (I?) look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Good jobs ! Noah

Yes, there's dihedral on the stock SS wing, might be 2" or 51mm. Let me know if you are going to add ailerons to the wing.

Be reminded to reinforce the balsa boom unless what you applied was the hard balsa but I notice the balsa boom was with lighter colour, might be medium hard one. And it's better to use the modern 2S 1300 or 1500mAh 20C lipo battery instead, lipo is much lighter than the old NiMh and with more capacity.

Like what I told you before yours might be the first all balsa SS in the world.

hi chen, yes I will have ailerons and thank you for the advice Iīll go with a little dihedral, and yes your right it is soft balsa and I will rienforce the boom.I think Iīll just go with nimh battery setup that I allready have for now and upgrade to lipo later thanks alot noah

Hi Noah,

My pleasure ! Be also reminded to discharge the NiMh down to 10% of its capacity always before charging it again. I discharge my NiMh AA cells more actually, I still use them on one of my JR Tx's.

ok heres some more updates. Iīve done the bulk of the wing and cut out all the parts for the center section, cut out and rienforced the ailerons and made the aileron mechanism (out of paperclips)I was thinking I probably need to rienforce the wing and I was wondering how much rienforceing it would need and what would be most suitable for it I was thinking about some metal but I donīt want to go to heavy.Name: DSC04872.jpg

I'm sure that you applied hard or medium hard balsa on all spars and stringers. I'd suggest glueing 2mm vertical grain shear webb between the main spars, and using plywood braces for joining both wing halves.

hi, thanks for the reply chen.
the centre section is all ply and the wing will have some more support from the landing gear as shown in pic. the wheight of the wing fuse servoes and other stuff is around 75 g. the wingspan is about 90 cm and length is about 60 cm.
I also made and connected the rudder as shown in pics. seeya noah Name: untitled.jpg

Hi Noah,

Good job ! I like the way you built, all balsa, and it's more than a balsa kit in this kind.
Your SS is more complicated than the GWS stock one, its size is a bit bigger than GWS Pico Stick, while it looks like SS but its size.

I think that the rudder will be able to turn this SS well as the wing is with good enough dihedral. The ailerons will make it more spirited in the air certainly.

thanks chen
does anyone know of a way of finding a wing loading for this ? or is there a realy simple way which Iīve completely missed Iīve heard theres calculators of sort but Iīve never found one
