I believe they chose this configuration to have the smallest octocopter in the world... It's a standard configuration.

Chris

This graphic on Walkera's website implies that it can run with just 4 arms:

If we look at this (under Connecting Motors and Servos):

http://www.multiwii.com/connecting-elements

the space walker is not that standard.

We cannot run with half of the motors as the rotation direction won't balance out.

Thanks. Are you sure it won't ask for $50 to ship a $2 order or insist in shipping the $2 order via UPS which means more or less the same for brokerage fee?

Best.

I thought the Ladybug's 4 arms was sufficient.

Best.

All I remember is that I got something shipped overseas from them and the shipping fee was quite low. It's been a while.

The Space Walker parts are available next Monday or Tuseday from Hobbyone.

Certainly this picture http://www.walkera.com/cn/pro_image/...ER_1000_en.jpg
shows all the inner motors going the same way... did Walkera just put the wrong props on the motors for the photo?
Rafa - can you confirm?

It seems to me that there should be 2 CW inner and 2 CW outer motors and 2 CCW inners, 2 CCW outers otherwise if all inners go the same way and all outers the opposite way then there will be a tendency to yaw in one direction or some motors working harder than the others no?

All the inner motors turn CW and all the outer motors turn CCW.

Confirmed. Inner motors are CW, outers are CCW.

I've sent an email to Walkera to ask for a manual or explanation. I'll let everyone know if I learn something.

I see what you mean.
Mine will not run on 4 arms but now I see what others have said - all inner run in the same direction.

I think I will try the four arm configuration (both long and short) again but try plugging two of them (appropriately) into the nearest different direction controller.

I hope that makes sense

Yes. And the props would be different as well.

With what I am spending on the ladybird, I cannot imagine what the maintenance bill would be like on this one. Definitely has the wow factor though!
