My Paypal order is in! Perhaps this winter there will be a Skyraider 1 emerge from the shop.
I notice that the Songbird has disappeared from the Pat's Custom Models coming attractions area. I hope that is not an ill omen for what I hope will be a hugely popular offering.
Best,
Robert

Short kit for the J-3 Kitten arrived today. It consists of the laser cut sheet of balsa (all the parts fit on one sheet!!) and the plans. Pat shipped it flat instead of in the usual square box. When the postal lady dropped it off today I thought it had gotten flattened!!!!

Thanks for getting the short kit out Pat. Now to scrounge some motor and radio parts!!

My kit arrived today also. Nice design, nice plans from Pat and great wood from Charlie and Vicki.

I am going to finish this one out in tissue and dope.

If my numbers are right, your little kitten has about 160 watts/lb. What are your thoughts on substituting an AR6400 with a 1s brushed set up?

Just like that one. Your little model is almost as cute. Great job on it.

I really think that the set-up from the mustang or the Sukoi might just work. Built as designed with a slightly lighter drive system would do well, and probably come in around 45 - 48 grams and do just fine.

I've built a couple of micros using the larger Parkzone 8.5mm brushed/geared power system. The complete motor, gearbox, and prop weigh in at 0.28oz (8.1g).

Models up to 2oz (56g) have been flown on this power system before. The Kitten shouldn't be a problem.

Equipped with a GWS EP5030 prop, I can hover a 33g foamy... so there is some good power there.

For once I can brag... I worked for Jessie Anglin in Hendersonville NC when I was 21. I was the primary labor on the construction of the first prototype of the j3. That would be the 12 in to the foot scale. As a hobby kinda thing, I built a peanut scale model of the plane, and presented it to Jessie. He refused to fly it, and hung it in his office. So I could say I built the first giant scale, and the first balsa model of this bird. I have been waiting almoast 30 years to brag about that.
