When you use the A123 you are there.

The 5 cell voltage of a nicad drops off more quickly and what happens is it ends up matching the voltage of the A123 in the long run. A123 discharge curve is much longer than nicads.

Added bonus is I know my A123 quick charge at 1c (you can charge up to 10c) I have had false peaks quick charging nicads and nimh packs.

A123 are awesome. They hold very similar voltage to a 5 cell nimh pack so no regulator needed. They are also 30c discharge rated so they are much safer against brown outs than a nimh pack.

1N diodes are available at Radio Shack.

I use 3S lipos in my HiTec transmitter. I have a connector with 2 diodes in series with the hot lead. Been working perfectly for about 4 years.

Dedicated RX battery is the safest. +1 for A123. I have several packs of the large cells, and they're great.
