first fan

Had an idea in my head for some time, that would include a nice size fan,..maybe midifan, 8S4P or 10S4P lipo's and 1000 to 1200 watts with retracts. Had to take a break from a couple current big projects, so I put my idea into CAD sunday on a much smaller scale as a "proof of concept", had the parts laser cut monday, built it last night and tonight. Should be able to throw it into the air this weekend. It's small so i could do it quickly,.. but it turned out cute enough I might just box them up and make kits (assuming it flies ). 30 inch span, 180 squares, wattage powerfan 400 with the stock sp400 motor that comes with it (will try B20 18L later, but want to see if the stock motor will work), and it was 14.25 ounces ready except for ESC. Didn't weigh since, so probably just barely under 15 ounces. That's with a 3S thunder power 2100 lipo pack on board,..i.e. "ready to fly".

It's a Vector Tad-pole! Keep it in a warm environment for 40 days, and it'll metamorphose... <grin>

Wow, that's light at 14.5 oz Should be a mover with the stock motor. I think it would look pretty neat with Vasa 65 nacelle on it, but then again you could buy 4 powerfans for the same price.

hopefully I'll get a chance to throw it in the air today sometime. only 45 minutes or so of daylight after work, but I think I can make it to the flying field by then,..or maybe lunchtime. The math works out pretty good on the cost,.. so assuming flight trials work well, this little one could be kitted for a $29.99 retail. the wattage fan with motor is only $27. Is there a market? My intention was a larger one with retracts, but what the heck, could do various sizes. And yes,.. the vector was inspiration deiter , but they're SOOOO expensive and also difficult to obtain due to limited production.

hmm,.. a little swept/tapered canard up front and it could be a ducted fan long-eze

Yeah, it does look like a baby-Vector doesn't it? Pretty enough to know that once she grows up, she'll be a super model. -- Actually, we are able to keep Vectors and fans in stock now; currently two are in stock and 3 fans.

Gary,

Do you think the Vector Tad-pole would work as
well with a GWS EDF 75? I have one of these.

thanks,
Fred

Hi Gary,

If you find it's a good flyer I'll buy one in a heart beat for $30.00.
The design looks good and my experience with all three of your other kits says BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!!!!!

I would also love to see an all laser cut balsa Midi size/brushless EDF already set up for Lipo's and retracts. One of these at a decent price and built to your usual standards would do very well IMHO.

Best Regards, Mickydee

micky, I'm writing instructions now , and I haven't even flown the prototype. Will know this weekend if the time spend in cad and writing instructions was worth the effort.

on a related note, anyone have real world numbers for motocalc for the midifan or minifan?
