100" Eurofighter (Finally Finished!)

Inspired by some of the big foam jets on here recently, and looking for a cheap summer project, so I went to HomeDepot and bought a lot of foam.

Based of the plans from here:
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...highlight=euro

Enlarged to 100" length, (max size with nose removed that will fit in my car). Fuselage is all 0.75" foamular 250, wings and canard will be hot wire cut.

I was initially thinking of setting it up as an EDF, but I really want something that has real 3D capability, without breaking the bank on the power system. So it will probably end up a twin pusher, with independent vectoring of the motors. Power system TBD, based on roughed out airframe weight. Going to go all Hobby-King, and see how cheap I can make it.

Hope to have it in the air by the end of the month. Building will mostly happen on the weekends...

Got most of the fuselage shaping done. Hope to get the canopy and turtle deck on tomorrow.

Thanks, we just moved into the new space, still trying to figure out where everything is. Also waiting for my boss to ask why there is a 9ft chunk of foam in there.

Roughed in the canopy and turtle deck, and hot wired out the canards tonight. I'm probably going to bag the flying surfaces with uni carbon caps and 0.7oz skins, and hand glass the fuse with some 1.4oz cloth. Went back and forth on what to do finishing wise, but I think it's going to be too dent prone without some sort of skin.

Canopy and turtle deck are shaped, wrapping up most of the serious sanding. Got the bubble undercut I was hoping for on the canopy, may be a bit to bulbous up top, but close. Next up is filling some dents/voids then finish sanding and glassing the fuse.

Looks really good so far. I have a soft spot for typhoon so I will be watching this thread like a hawk

With all that size, your typhoon will have some serious authority and presence when hitting skies

Thanks guys, it's been a while since I've done a big build like this, forgot how much I enjoy the carving and shaping part (minus the pink foam dust EVERYWHERE)

Work kept me from getting more done tonight, although the bearing blocks and other hardware for the canards showed up from mcmaster, and I ordered all the hardware I'll need for the wings.

Hopefully back to work tomorrow evening.

Yeah, it's a pain when trying to make a living gets in the way of a project, ain't it?
