My New Hobbyzone Micro Champ RTF 2.4GHz

... with my first mod, bush / tundra tires... foam tires from Parkzone PKZ4406 T-28 Main Landing Gear. I bored out the center hole a bit bigger and slid them over the existing stock tires...

How does it fly with the extra weight?

Thanks, guys,

It actually flies "better" (subjective term) with the extra weight... smoother, more scale... and I'm still under half throttle for level flight. I was going to run the wheels/tires on my bench mount belt sander and take the diameter down just a little bit (although I have seen tundra tires this big, relatively speaking, on the real Piper Cubs, I thought these looked just a tiny bit too big... maybe by 2 or 3mm) but when I saw how scale it flew I decided to not mess with a good thing... a new flying buddy of mine who used to have one of his own who also saw mine fly and land said he'd just leave it alone too

Just need to build up some speed first to pull a loop

My old man used to fly a Cub in Africa while doing his PhD. When I mentioned that I had bought a little RC version, he asked, "With Tundra's?" I would love to do this mod just to make him smile! Brilliant idea!

Check out my newer blog entry on my wheels mod... I re-did them from scratch using the foam from a different brand of wheel... and took the mod a bit further...they look even more scale now
