Just Jimmie Allen models

I'm rather enamored with these Jimmie Allen designs. I've built a several over the years with mixed results, yet I keep coming back for more.

Is there anybody else out there with a thing for these airplanes? Posted here are the two currently in my fleet and some markings I made for water slide decals. I posted these airplanes elsewhere but this will put them under one heading. So get your Jimmie Allen designs ready for the summer postal contest!

Very cool Chris! I fancy doing the Yellow Jacket at some point, it's a bit less often seen than some of them.

I kinda like the Monsoon Clipper, though I've never seen one in person.

There's also supposed to be one called the Monsoon 800, but I've never even seen a picture of one.

I might even copy the yellow logo for my parasol if you would be so kind as to change the spelling of ALLAN to ALLEN. Gary

Here are some photos of my Jimmie Allen in Navy Markings and a couple of shots of 3 Jimmie Allen planes--from about 8 years ago.

Pretty Parasols Pat! That design lends itself well to finishes that are semi-scale. I'm framing up the Bluebird now. It's the largest of the Jimmie Allenís but I'm not sure it's the best. Seems to be getting heavy. I have a silly putty DT for it but I'm wondering if it's worth putting it on. I'll post pics soon.

Air Chief

I learned at the Scale Staffel contest April 28 & 29 this year the Air Chief is the largest Jimmy Allen model. Spans 41.5" Bob Holman has the plans and short kit. I have the wing framed along with the stab and rudder. Carved a prop and turned a set of "Monster Truck" wheels for it on a hand drill. Hope to have the fuselage framed before the week is out.

The one I saw fly was a "goin concern" as my Dad used to say. Three flights, three maxes.

I have to check that out. Post some pics of your Air Chief, I would love to see it. I'm framing up the Bluebird now and the only thing left is to turn the wheels and carve the prop.....oh, and then cover the beast. I'm going to start the wheels tonight and try and take a pic or two. I'm hoping to have it ready by Monday, my local SAM club is having a practice day for JA models as we tune up for some official flight entries for the annual postal event. Our club comes in dead last every year and this year we are bound and determined to come in next to last!

Oh wait, that's called a Sky Chief....right?

Bluebird

Here's the Bluebird framed up and ready for covering. The wing saddle wires were a fight but I think they will work. I added DT capability but with the weight that this dude is coming in at it may not be needed. The culprit is the wing I think. Beefy spar and lots of ribs and half ribs. I added a 1/8" square turbulator spar.

Pat, that's a great job on your Navy inspired JA. And the Army coloured version by your buddy is pretty slick too.

EC, at the size of the Bluebird you'd be surprised at how heavy it can be and still thermal well. Anything on the low side of 5'ish oz RTF will make it thermal fodder in a hurry. The bare bones are looking great.
