I like to aim for 3.0+kg on high powered models.

Here's the results from running my DPS 90mm 10S unit on 9S. I think I may replace this unit. I'm sure I can get the spec'd 3400W out of it on 10S, it's just very heavy for an already tail heavy unit. Every gram of extra weight on this EDF is two grams on the airframe because I have to add lead to the nose. Seeing as this jet will never be a speed demon, I think I'll go the CS-12 route on 8S or 10S.

Here are the results in a nutshell:

2200W @ 69A and 32V.

Thrust wasn't measured.

The ESC is the Castle 80A ICE2 HV which is mounted in the rear of the battery compartment, it's temperature didn't rise above 44C (111F). This is after a total of about 45 seconds of ground running at full throttle.

Why not shift the fan forward? thats what im planning to do when my new fuselage arrives.

I had a dummy set up with my damaged fuse and it looks like it will balance ok with 10 cells

Moving it forward about 3cm would be a fair amount of work - moving it further than that would be a headache. I'm not sure if the CG shift would merit the effort since the fan is quite a ways back there. I'll probably hold off until I try the new struts, and I may try and find a nice paved surface to fly from.

I can probably shift the ESC a bit further forward and maybe add a pilot or two which will help. My AUW of 4440g is a bit on the heavy side, but it should still fly well on the 9S setup (and 10S later) with the large wing area and flaps. I really think the struts weren't helping me out on the grass surface.

why not use 10S and get the extra weight in the nose?

Think 10s is the way to go as well. 10s will give you the extra nose weight you need, lower amps on the ESC and a extra pound of thrust from 8s. Im getting 3300 watts @ 77amps on a Change Sun 12 blade on 10s

It will be 10S soon. I just have an 80A HV ESC in my little hands right now which might be marginal for 10S with this setup, so I'm running 9S. When I get a larger ESC the extra cell will get dropped in. The extra weight in the nose will be negligible - I'm using a 2200mAh 3S for a receiver battery for extra weight, plus 150g or so of lead.

dear god that's too much.. and 2200mah are tooooo little
you iwll need very high c rating apcks for this one
just go 4000mah 10s and use a small life for the receiver or a 2s 1300lipo
iit will be plenty enough

150g of lead are TOOOOOOO much for this model

Wow! im really surprised that this plane is so tail heavy. im glad you posted it. Im at the point of adding all the components now, so I can move them around first before any thing become permanent.

Thanks

And im going with 7s!!
