How many planes is too many?

Hi Pete,

The recommended motor is approx. 140g plus about 25g of accessories. A spinner is probably about 25g too. I did some tail mods to increase tail stiffness and using a 166g motor plus about 22g of accessories and no spinner, my 204g lipo is as far forward as I can get it to be hands-off neutral. I suggest that you mount your ESC and receiver as far forward as practical and don't add to much tail weight due to heavy servos or servo cable extensions. I suspect that the use of a spinner is the easiest way to ensure that you are not too tail heavy, assuimng that your motor is at least 140g before attaching about 25g of accessories to it. Bear in mind that individual kits will vary a bit, so you may find that your kit is easier to balance.

thanks groove

my preferred motor for the SW 48 foamies is 155g with all the accessories, but Im afraid it could be not enough, I have the option to use a 190g drive but I dont like this option due to the increased AUW, well see

my servos are savox sh-0255mg, about 16g each

maybe I just cut off the tailwheel and replace it with a simple carbon rod glued to the end of the fuse if I get trouble with CG, I like this option more than adding additional dead weight by using a spinner

Pete, Savox servos are my favourite. Infact Iam planning to use them on my 30CC MXS-r (Align DS610 made by Savox). BTW 16g each and 3.9 KGCM at .13 Sec is very very good IMO.

yep, Ill always go with savox now, we tested the Hitec HS-82MG against the savox sh-0255mg over a perioud of 60-70 3D flights on a SW MXS
after that amount of flights the hitecs were worn out and got a lot of play and got loose, the savox worked like on the first flight, almost no signs of wear
savox rocks!

on my new WM 70" edge Ill go with savox as well

Pete

whats the average AUW for this palne?
I guess my extra will be about 1260g at least, min. 70g more than my skywings, but on the other hand, this model is bigger than the SW palnes, so it is not surprising that it is a bit heavier

hallo folks,

could someone of you measure the exact location of CG on his own plane, please?

the manual says 105-115 from LE, is this true or could it be a little bit more to the tail and still fly OK?

I dont think Frank wrote wrong data in the manual, but I noticed that CG location in the Skywing manuals was a little nose heavy and I could move it much more back than the manual said and my MXS still flew nicely, so I wondered if it could be the same with the WM Extra?

cheers
Pete

Hello guys, I finally finished a video of my son's tour of the Winner's Model factory with Mr. Frank Liu. It is on my blog here at rcgroups: Tour of model RC airplane factory (home video).

I hope others enjoy watching it as much as I did (it was interesting to me because I wasn't able to be on the tour).

Canopy

Anyone have a canopy (blue) they want to part with? Mine ejected off and blew into the Arkansas river. If anyone knows if 3dhs's extra canopy fits let me know and I will order one. Or if someone sells canopies for WM planes.
Thanks,
Troy
