I am new to this FPV thing but I would be interested in seeing what others are doing.

I'm new to this FPV stuff so will just show up to watch and learn.
I am setting up a EZ* on 1.3 using RMRC equip.

Dave's Beach is a legal place to fly and you should not have issues there.
Be aware though that it is directly under the departure of McClellan-Palomar a few miles due East.

Parking is limited especially mid-summer. Consider parking just north at the bridge, somewhat large dirt lot.

Honestly if we're up at Dave's I doubt any of us will be going for altitude records. I found most of the fun down on the shore or up on the ridge.

No doubt, would be where I'd fly also.

Just wanted visitors to know there's full scale directly overhead.

Good call. Plus you don't want to wonder to far out into the ocean. I say we just go with Dave's if everyone is up for it.

I think DS park (people I know refer to it as Ponto Field because it is on Ponto Road) would be better than Dave's Beach.

Dave's Beach is tough for landings. There is turbulant air from the bluff and a narrow landing strip. There are also many pedestrians and traffic close by. One bad traffic incident and Dave's Beach will be closed down. If the weather is nice, forget about parking.

I believe that Ponto Field is privately owned so the city can't prevent anyone flying there. I also believe that the owner is airplane friendly. At least that is what I have heard. There are pedestrians (and plane hungry dogs) at Ponto but there is plenty of parking and landing area. Ponto is also farther from the airport. Many FPV'ers like to fly high, especially with a nice ocean view.

Either is good with me.

Ive seen some "scary" landing at Daves.
Planes caught in the street light. Planes in the street and even blown to far over the hotel to make it back.

Anybody catch on the local news tonight about the fire in Chollas View.
They said it was caused by a crashed RC plane.

there is a lot of resistance from the city..
That's why I hesitate using DSP. I rather not rattle any cages and cause problems for the folks up at Dave's.

Yeah - Dave's beach is actually a designated RC Field in Carlsbad along with some other areas - so the City doesn't have an issue there, however DSP is kind of difficult - one side is owned by the State and the other side is owned by the city .. we just need to stay on the right side :-D

What are the "some other areas" if you don't mind my asking?
