I've been following your thread, great topic. I too have a 450 clone, the $38 kit/frame from Xheli. I've been flying it for a couple years and it's (for the most part) rock solid. I don't do any 3D but mostly sport flying (loops, rolls, stall turns etc) and it's held together well. I upgraded the servos to Hitec HS 65's on the cyclic and a $45 Futaba servo on the tail. Still have the cheapie $12 gyo, ESC and motor however.

Hey how long does it take for shipping from that Leader4hobby place? Just curious.

Thanks, kudos again on the great thread.

Wow Fly Mentor - ok maybe not for noobs !

I have flown plastic fantastic 20 times and no crashes !

With fly mentor = 4 flights 4 crashes / soo lucky not to have damaged anything , pure ass !

???? I just cant lift off with fly mentor on !
If I do it just jams the heli into the ground , for some reason it just pulls insanely to the right , I mean dog gone nuts hard .
Either positioning mode or balance mode makes no difference , pulls to the right like a big dog heading for a lamp post ..

Only way to activate either is in flight , otherwise your inviting disaster .. it will not sort itself out and you will find yourself flying with nearly full left stick to counter fly mentor .

I can understand now why some folks crash with it - I have , 4 F'n times ..

I have to change knobs to be able to activate fly mentor in flight ..

Even then there is a slight tendency , esp in balance mode to pull to the right ...?

Wow ... So far a huge pain in the proverbial !
Heli actually flew better without fly mentor - go figure ...

I will persevere , as balance mode looks to have potential ...
Positioning mode ? yeah its capable of holding position - sort of , but makes the heli really jerky and hard to move around smoothly ..

Such great expectations ...

Wow ok , some 7 flights today and 5 crashes ...

I got fly mentor not to crash , and thats all Ive done today .. And plastic fantastic has taken it and kept on ticking ..

One crash was brutal , was sure there were broken parts , but no ...

In one way fly mentor is good in a other its an unforgiving piece of crap ....

I dare say fly mentor needs way much more work to be noob friendly ...
It really in itself is a cause of crashes ..

I dare say a well set up 450 is better , oh well , I will keep trying with FM
Will try for a video shortly ...

The $15 kit is here .

I got some cheap metal tail rotor housings , so put one on this plastic 450 ..

Havent pulled the head down as yet , will do that some time , I have no gear to put in it , in any ways .

A small update

I thread locked and rebuilt the head last night [ looks good ] ...

The metal tail rotor housing cost some $2.20 , and really smooths things out ,
A worth while upgrade I would say if you can pick them up cheap enough .
All the parts going into this one , and the one after that , are in the postal system and will most likely come in very slowly ... [ I want them now ]

I am finally getting around to putting my Leader Hobby heli together.

Are there any recommendations or parts that I should swap out?

Thanks for everything!
