That's because he is locked in a dark room in the basement with only his lap top, a 2-liter bottle of diet Coke, and a red swinglie stapler writing his codes.

Nice video, it sure looks like the pan lock is working well.

tumad,

Nice example of a pan lock.

Request to developers.
Please explain what Smoothing function does.
Also:
Is it possible to implement compass mode on/off in flight or at the field via stick combo or a switch. On occasion one finds oneself in a situation where the compass has to many disturbances but no laptop with software nearby.
Thanks kindly..

First turn off all trims on your radio for pan servo.
Then launch software
Activate trim servo and find neutral so there is no movement
You must be in mode 0 (manual control) for this.
Go back to radio and set max travel of pan Chanel to about 25%
This will slow down your pan servo to a useable rate. Use a dual rate at 25% for manual control. You are looking for a nice slow pan at full throw. Not fast

Set controller to mode 2 (pan lock) by activating aux switch on radio
Make sure to lift gimbal off the ground for this otherwise copter spins around
Set dual rate on your radio for this mode to a higher value (80%)

Once that is all working correctly go into PID Tuning of pan servo

Set gyro gain to 0 and try
Then 0.5 then 1.0 etc until pan lock is slow and smooth
Mine is at 2.5
Now turn P down to 5000 then go up in 1000 increments
Mine is 100000.
P is the stop factor. To high and it will oscillate
Do the same with I
I is the launch or start to stabilize factor
Mine is at 8000

Gyro gain is the overall effect. To high and it will oscillate like a heli tail that is to twitchy

Good luck

I am not sure you have tried hard enough.
Start from scratch, and think about it for a minute.
Turn all the gains down to 0 and make sure that there is no movement and that you are indeed in heading hold mode (1 or 2)
You can check this in the Receiver tag under CH1
The bottom box changes between 0-1-2 when you activate the different modes.
Check your radio and make sure you have decreased the travel of the pan servo.

Go into PID gains and turn everything to 0 and see what happens.

Need a way to slow down the gimbal pitch movement via TX

I am still trying to find a way to slow down the manual pitch rate from the lever on my Futaba TX. I can't seem to find a control within the HFG Setup Client to allow me to slow down the MANUAL pitch movement independent of the automatic pitch leveling while in flight. Any thoughts on this?

The smoothing setting under receiver configuration does this

Wow... that worked! Just what I was looking for. Thanks George. Is there by any chance an updated user manual for the HFG as mine makes no mention of this from what I could find. Any info you can share with regard to what is the latest user manual, firmware and software would be good info. As I mentioned earlier I am still getting some roll which throws off my horizon when I yaw very slowly to create a pan effect and I read that this had been addressed at some time in the past. I just want to be sure that I am up to date with everything for the best possible HFG experience. Please let me know and thanks again for the previous tip.

Share one of my lastest testing with HG board video .
I just cut and put the shots together with the nice song.
It has no any post-stabilization. so you will find there still have some jello effect from the camera gimbal. That is one of my last part need to fix it. i hope i could handle that soon.
Ok, guys enjoy ! the shooting location is my home town Hong Kong. =)
