Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter

I'm thinking about getting this little 3 channel IR heli as a starter, to learn and experience copter flight firsthand. Then, move up to the DH9116.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments?

No. It's not going to help you progress at all. It's basically a toy. It doesn't function the same or have the same channel assignments, so the controls are all different. Plus, it doesn't weigh anything, so it has unrealistic flight properties. You don't really want anything less challenging than the 9116. It's quite tame, unless you are very old or handicapped. It will only take you a few days to get reasonably comfortable with it. Just take it slow and easy.

Go straight to the 9116. The coaxial copters becoming boring in about 1 day, teach you almost nothing about real flight and have almost no outdoor capabilities (especially the one you are considering). If you absolutely must have a coaxial, the Syma S032 is an excellent little copter with an actual radio control not infrared and it's inexpensive and durable. But, still go with the 9116 - easy to fly, almost indestructible and with an actual 2.4ghz radio that is fully programmable and digital. Unheard of in a $80 helicopter.

Even us "very old" guys have learned to fly the 9116

Thanks fellas, input's appreciated. You're both probably right.

Amazon's got the 9116 for $78 so I'll just go ahead and pull the trigger.

Thanks again,

Good decision, you can't go wrong for the price. Fairly heavy and underpowered, so they are fairly stable and easy to fly.
