Herb, thanks for posting the product links, the HK $39.00 gear seems to stand well on that landing in the video clip.

Could you post a couple more photos of the balsa stop block, is if forward of the nore gear, I'm a bit confused here.
thanks - ken k.

... Sold the fan and motor for $20 to a guy at the field ... for an electric swamp boat.

Hi Ken,

It's just a wood block placed behind the nosegear strut, with maybe 1/2mm clearance.

It prevents the strut from bending back on takeoff and possibly cracking the nosegear plastic mechanism.

Ply would be even better than balsa I think now.

The mechanism is fairly inexpensive - and interchangeable between mains and nose - so I bought from HK a spare set, just in case. I can always use it in the Mirage.

I tried a new Gens Ace 4000 9S pack (3S x 3) pack in the Hawk and it almost melted my connectors and got all my 12ga wiring hot ... that CS 12-bladed fan sounds cool but is a real amp HOG.

Thinking of taking that fan out and putting in a WeMoTec Midifan or some other more efficient fan to reduce the power consumption and get longer flights ...

That's a good weight !

Mine had major strengthening done in the wing to make it more rigid (see pics above) and improved ducting. And I have a fairly big motor, a heavier fan and a 120A HV esc.

What struts & retracts did you end up using?

My CG is where the instructions say it should be. In flight it's actually quieter now since I plugged that huge resonating esc hole in the foam behind the fan.

for retracts I used 3 of these

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...m_1pc_54g.html

the struts are the mains from 1400mm fms P-51 and the nose
strut is from the 1400 mm fms t-28 , not scale ,but light and they
work well in the grass
I did get these , but to save weight I used the above
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...1_20_class.htm
I also got the scale metal legs , but opted for the weight saving .

I also reinforced the wing with a hollow carbon spar

jet is complete (except decal's ) with telemetry an extra coat of clear
and a center drop tank , aircraft empt weight is 78 oz (less battery )
in the van for Maiden tomorrow

finally maiden after the nose wheel was damaged on our grass runway
sunday , then a rain day and 2 very windy days.

model flew great ,fly's like a trainer

the wind to day was 12-17 with a crosswind on a very narrow and
short paved runway - got some minor damage when the model got blown
off the runway on landing

BAE Maiden Flight (4 min 26 sec)

to save weight I didn't do rudder , but I will do it now .
all up flying weight 94 Oz

Herb you left the field too soon today!
Longs blue hawk took off , did a couple laps, suddenly half the wing ripped off and then the ensuing corkscrew into the ground from 100ft up.
Nose broken/chewed up back to the intakes. We gathered up all the pieces, Looks fixable.
Wing broke where it meets the fuselage side. He didn't have a spar in it.
