Question

Why Pine Wood on RCExplorer 2.5 Tricopter?

Why do most people use pine wood and not basswood on the RCExplorer 2.5 tricopter? Is it lighter, stronger or cheaper then basswood?

http://www.ehow.com/info_12133491_ba...e-vs-pine.html this says pine is stronger, but more expensive.

here: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/wo...sity-d_40.html both pine and bass density changes a lot depending on type(white etc)

For most of us, it comes down to availability as much as price. For me, the hardware store on the way home has 12mm (1/2") 900mm + 1200mm sticks for very little $$$

If you drop it from a great height... even carbon square rod smashes

All that Lowe's carries locally is yellow-poplar in 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8. Cheap and the 1/2 seems the best trade-off for strength/weight for the V2.5 build.

Heavy lift Hexa frame built from 3/4" pine wood. Used plywood for the plates instead of PCB boards. All inspired by dadde
