Question

Why Pine Wood on RCExplorer 2.5 Tricopter?


Why do most people use pine wood and not basswood on the RCExplorer 2.5 tricopter? Is it lighter, stronger or cheaper then basswood?

For most of us, it comes down to availability as much as price. For me, the hardware store on the way home has 12mm (1/2") 900mm + 1200mm sticks for very little $$$

If you drop it from a great height... even carbon square rod smashes

Made mine out of basswood, works great.

i have made mine out of basswood, from the local hobbylobby, i had bought some 10mm x10mm pine from http://www.magnumwood.com/ but it was all warped

All that Lowe's carries locally is yellow-poplar in 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8. Cheap and the 1/2 seems the best trade-off for strength/weight for the V2.5 build.
