-made his own cowls

You can say what you want about modern materials, but I heard the pride in workmanship, when you said," those cowls are BALSA baby" ! You get it........

We want to teach others how to feel that way, man.

I try to ,i was an flight instcuctor for my two clubs for over 20 years, president of one club for two terms . I have helped many in my time and hope to help many more before i kick the bucket so we can keep the building going into the future. Here is my little guy ,he can cut out parts pretty good and will not sand past my lines .I think he will build some planes soon and he will end up with all mine someday. joe

tongue in cheek

So,after being knocked about for limiting my use of modern materials,I felt I needed to prove I mean what I say.

So I sawed down a Beech tree, cut out a large chunk, and began the journey to carving a prop.

Can you say -"scratch built" ?

At least it's started....one blade is easy...making the other one the same is the hard part.
Once bolted to a solid surface, templates will be made every inch, and transferred to the other side.
My test procedure is easy- I mount it on a G-62,turn it at 9000 rpm.If it doesn't break,it'll be good on an O.S.91 4 cycle at 5000.
