Near Disastrous maiden flight of a B-17 Bomber!!

This is the StarMax B-17. Its a behemoth and this maiden flight nearly became its last. Watch this pilot test his skills with this badly balanced, dead battery flight.. OOPS

That wasnt that bad, it better glide. I'm trying to figure out though why "Flipper" keeps chiming in in the soundtrack.

If I took off and it behaved like that I would bring it right around and land... who takes off and sees that it is totally tail heavy and continues flying?

i'm also trying to figure out why you have the flaps out after your pack is dead as its causing major issues (and also makes the plane much harder to control, while being tail heavy) clean the plane up and keep the airspeed up as you were on the verge of a tipstall throughout the landing part of the video.

Behemoth?? That little foamie. The "pilot" needs to go back to a trainer, as he did everything wrong he possibly could have in a tailheavy situation. If it flew anything like a real model B-17 does, and not a Piper Cub, it would not have lasted 5 seconds in the air.

Its foam beer cooler. So what if it crashes, just whip out the checkbook and you have another duplicate....

Not sure why he continued to fly, if it behaves that tail heavy then ditch it in the grass and reballance the CG.... Foolish and lucky!

lol yeah I know the 1st thing I do if I maiden and find the plane tail heavy..... I circle the strip endlessly trying to depleat the battery (in this case the batt must be behind the CoG so when all the juice was run out the tail becomes lighter AKA dumping fuel)

True, but it is kinda crazy to not land right away when it's flying that badly and sort out the issue. And then to run the whole pack out on top of that.

I'm not bashing foam, as I have a few that I keep around just as basher planes. What blows my mind is that the foamie generation actually thinks these beer coolers are actual scale planes and that its the pinnacle of our hobby. True modellers are a dying breed, and to me that is a very very sad state for our hobby. Actual innovations by modellers over the years are what built this hobby into what it is today, not some beer cooler plant in China. Do they have a place in our hobby, yes, but I'm afraid that they are dumbing down the majority of "fliers" today.
