Can I run a 2.4GHz Radio and a 2.4GHz FPV system?

I would like to know if I can run my 2.4GHz JR Aircraft radio with a 2.4GHz FPV system without issues? Thanks for all your help RCG!

You'll have issues.

Thank you so much philthyy!

OK - So that I have this correctly.
I'll have to run a 5.8GHz or a 900 MHz FPV system?

Thank you to Farmer.
Funny... I really am a farmer too!

So would I be better to run a 5.8GHz or a 900MHz FPV system with a 2.4GHZ aircraft radio?
If anything cuts out I want it to be the FPV and NOT my aircraft radio.

Thanks for all the help.

Yep. And even then you'll have issues. 2.4ghz controllers are digital devices, and thy do NOT respond well to having a video transmitter blasting away right by them. I strongly suggest you get a 72mhz system or a UHF system. Or do some research here on RCG about using a booster and different antennas for your JR 2.4 radio.

I have looked at Dragon Link for my aircraft radio but I heard they don't play nice with each other? Have they got that problem resolved?

Yes. The new firmware resolves that issue perfectly. The Dragonlink is awesome. You can't go wrong with that.

My sons and I are new to rc planes we bought a fms plane and ttx radio with ttx receivers . My questions is : will the hoobyparzts3axisgyro- work. In these planes or will it burn out the esc . Thanks -- also is testors the only clear coat we can use to help protect finish. Thanks

You could also run a 1.3 system. I run both 5.8 and 1.3 systems and 2.4 on the RC. I have found that you do not want to go too powerful on the Video tx with 1.3. I tested a 800 mW and it caused alot of interference. I had about 50 feet of RC range! I now run a 200 mW 1.3 system and it is fine. For the 5.8 I run a 600 mW system. Both systems have Bluebeam ant's, which are worth the money. Ditch the whip!

The second order harmonic (unintended spurious RF emission) of 1.3ghz is so close to 2.4ghz that you will find your 2.4ghz control range greatly reduced if you run a powerful 1.3ghz Vtx too close to the Rc 2.4ghz Rx.

That being said, you really REALLY should run a LPF (Low Pass Filter) on any 1.3ghz Vtx if you are running 2.4ghz for control. The LPF attenuates, or cuts down/weakens/dampens that 2.4ghz "spur" so it won't hurt your Rc range nearly as much.

I would agree with you there! Even with the filter 800 mW was too much! What I learned is always do a range check when installing NEW gear!

Don't be popular, be right.
5.8 really is plenty for most people especially starting out. Get a solid half watt TX and matching RX with a set of CP antennas and have at it. It'll be good for a couple kilometers LOS pretty easily. To go past that you'll be upgrading your radio anyway. The 5.8 stuff is also stupid easy to resell if you do surpass it's capability but many won't.

I use 5.8ghz setup in my twin star 2 and it was awesome i also had the dragonlink witch was ok i went an easy 4 kms i had a high gain helical and antenna tracker and normal cp clover leaf 600mw boscam vtx. it a nice setup. then i had to upgrade the motors props and bigger batteries to go further.

i also should add that i upgraded to a 1.3ghz setup with the dragonlink and didn't work well the 1.3ghz video just kept locking out the dragonlink. i wouldn't recommend dragonlink to anyone. wanting to fly on 1280.. you can check out the ibcrazys long rang shoot out video on youtube they do a pretty good reviews on all the lrs systems.
