Yes I agree Alex... I think that whole alpine area. It has such a local weather , as in, it creates it own.
I'll get on that historical weather maybe we can see a pattern.
I've done similar with tasmania. What needed where to make the wind happen.
Where does the centre of slow have to be , and the high next to it , to get the compression in-between.
The hard work will pay off..

Wind, hill, ... I'm keen ...

that's amazing. Multiply it by 2 to get knots, so that's 36 knots! Last Wed I was getting almost blown sideways by the wind up there in the afternoon (42mph on Alex's dicky gauge) but the forecast was about a third of that. Shame it was off angle.

Well this is the most steady directioned readout I have seen yet from tekapo for the Perfect direction. Stayed WNW all afternoon. Still is.

I wonder if the big High over the tasman has anything to do with it. Was a big low when Andrew was here

Yes... It just has to be warmer. , and get push over the mountains , cools and falls..... As a nw'er.
Seem to happen more , on a high.
But more so , when the centre of the high is level with qld. A bit higher than that pic of ezza's.

I think we are figuring it out.

I have found this forecast location to be more accurate for wind direction, just triple the wind speed value: http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/sebastapol

Also have emailed Mt John asking to be put in contact with any weather experts they have there, or at the Uni that runs some of the teloscopes and research there. Also mentioned our aims, what we do, added some links etc. Hopefully we can find someone willing to help us or guide us with well educated forecasts for the area. Maybe even some publicity and help.

Going to head down on Thursday to see if I am right in thinking we are starting to get the forecasting sorted. Reading forecasts, hoping it is telling me WNW at 40-50mph up the hill

Now that we are use to Andrews videos, you are going to have to take your camera and send us live reports

Well the forecast direction is the same for tomorrow as it was on Monday and Tuesday when it was WNW all afternoon.

Heading home from work in 30min, then pack the car, and get 6 hours sleep at best, before heading off first thing for a 3 hour drive (including some pick ups)

My main aim for this trip is to see if the forecast for Sebastapol is accurate enough to go from for future use. This site still needs some effort put in to sort out what works, and when. Hopefully all will be sorted for when you all come over in December!
