The track up to Tekapo is definitely proper 4WD only at the moment. Winter rains and Snow have sluiced out a large part at the bottom where it is now large rocks to be navigated over

So toady was a HUGE day at Tekapo. Wind was on and off like it can be there. Was spot on all morning at about 40mph, then about midday went off angle as front moved through, and after it did, it swung back with gusto as forecast.

Once it had sorted its direction out, I chucked out the Waxa and got it up to 250 quite easily. I landed that and started putting planes together, all the while the wind was building. I decided to chuck ou the Scorcher first as i love that plane and hadnt DSed it since rebuilding it so was keen to do so as a warm up.

The wind built into the flight, coming and going but overall trend was building. I was keen to try get the airframe best on it and crack 350. Apon doing so, I landed and knew it was new PB time for the K130.

This didnt go so well...

So after that took a while to sort out, with the retrieval of the fuse form the valley floor, and I'd had a rest and post mortem, The wind had started to subside a little. I flew the D80 to 315, which was another short flight due to it being Scotts plane and I didnt want to bust it, just wanted a new D80 personal best which I got. Elevator was running out above 300, which is weird as I managed a 3421 back there with good mechanical linakage set up....

We got Corrie out with the Waxa for a bit, he flew it awesome, but wind was dropping and backside was super clean and smooth. He got about 190odd with it.

I then flew the K2m in the lighter air to 324 with zero ballast as I havent set that up yet.

Then convinced Corrie to fly the scorcher. Was hoping to get him a new pb, but being a new plane to him and also getting lighter for the heavy heavy models, was only another short flight to 215 several times before he said his brain was fading. I slightly damaged it on landing, so need a replacement gearset for a MKS and also a LE dent repair. Is heavy at 4.2kg

We called it a day at this point and packed up and headed home.

Looking at this video, if we head back to tekapo, I think moving the flying spot down could be a good move. Would mean more spade work and moving rocks...

I agree Alex, I feel much more comfortable being further down the back side. I think you get a better perspective of what the plane is doing and how much height you have. The top turn sort of looks after itself so you don't need to be as close I reckon.

Awesome!
A wonderful flight! Tekapo is a nice place.
Everyone, even without a gyro, is fast and has good control.
The DS point in Japan is narrow and it is difficult without a gyro.

Ahh I get what you mean Alex. I have found my plane sort of drawn to that area quite a few times before and and it always looks really fast but we never got reads.
East sky- yeah Tekapo is awesome, so much room both up and down and also sideways. And for how fast it is, on the whole its incredibly smooth too!
