Why use the UBEC? The sound board can't take 11v? If so just use 7v from the balance tap on your battery. It may even work off one cell.

In all fairness the sound module warned about going over 9volts. I am sure the board could handle it, but not sure about the speaker. I wired it per the Turnigy manual which had the UBEC. I might tinker with it later and go directly to the 3s 11.1 volt used to fly the plane or use a Castle Link to adjust the UBEC and tap the UBEC directly for power. I think you can adjust the Castle 10 amp UBECs for different voltage output.

Thanks for the inspiration and follow through with your solution. I have a 3-way siren from RAM that I will reconfigure in this way (with the switch). The siren is pretty loud and obnoxious.

Wire the sound card directly to the balance tap on your battery. The 2 cell tap will give your 7.4v which will be fine for the sound card. This will eliminate the regulator.

I have plenty of these balance tap connectors or you can get them online.

Is Digi-Key your recommended source?

BTW - nice crochet project you have going there in the background.

Just wondering regarding driving the sound card with 7.4v, 9v, 12v...

Would the input voltage affect the output volume? If so, if 9v isn't really loud enough when in flight, then 7v certainly will not cut it.

I don't have one of those cards but I bet it does. Easy to test. Just use the balance ports on a battery to test the card and try it at 3.8, 7.4 and 11V. The sound level would only stay the same if it had some type of regulator on the sound card.

If you want it louder a separate power amp and speaker could be added.

Ralph from RAM mentioned that increasing the voltage will not increase the volume. Damage would be to the speaker. 7.4 volts in not powerful enough, but at least it wouldn't damage the speaker. I will try using a UBEC set to 9 volts Just need a Castle lInk to set up my UBEC.
