If there is still design flexibility, please set it up so LiFe packas can be used. I do not and will NEVER use a Lipo in a TX. Way too dangerous.

Also, can you please release your new Rxs and not wait for the Tx to be released.

Jim has stated several times that there will be no charge jack; you will have to take the pack out of the Tx to charge.

from the very first post in the thread...

"Power requirements: 6v-24v (Lipo, LiFe, Nicd, Nimh compatible)"

Yes but he states earlier no A123 will fit. Hopefully it can be set-up so the LiFe packs like the Hyperions or Hobbykings can fit.

Mostly (please please please Jim), give us the new 9-ch RX soon. Got some bigger birds running LiFe Rx packs and it would be nice to have pack voltage telemetry showing up on the A9.

Do I understand correctly, that gear door sequencing capability, will be built in to the transmitter, and no extra sequencer hardware will be required on the plane?

There are rechargeable AA size lithium cells, so you should be able to build a 2S2P pack and have room to spare.

The Tx uses a standard off-the-shelf case designed for the standard 8-cell NiXx brick (typically 95mm x 28mm x 28mm) so you can use any (6v-24v) battery at all that you find or assemble that will fit inside that profile.

A123 cells are either 26650 (26mm diameter, 65mm long) or 18650 (18mm diameter, 65mm long). Those dimensions are not compatible with the available space so unless you hack the case, a 2S A123 setup won't fit.

On the other hand, the Hyperion and HK LiFe Tx packs are specifically designed to replace standard 8-cell Tx packs and so are very likely to fit.

HP-FG305-2100-3S = 95.0 x 30.3 x 27.1mm
Zippy LiFe (3S, 9.9V, 1800mAh) = 100 x 27 x 33mm

Correction
A 28 x 28 square has a 39mm diagonal. It was pointed out to me that in fact a side-by-side 2S 18650 LiFe pack does indeed fit, it just sits on the diagonal. So you can use a 2S A123 setup if you are happy with a 1000mAh solution.

I might have to grab one of these for a second radio. I am almost out of model memory on my 9503. Yes I have 40+ flying models.

kgfly is correct on the dimensions and compatibility.

Yes, the transmitter will be able to control multiple servos in sequences. So, with enough receiver channels (2-4) you could have gear door sequencing done, including split gear doors that return up after the gear goes down.

This will probably cause major concern... Is there room for an 8AA battery holder? There are also some expensive Bulgin AA and AAA holders that are 6 cells in a triangle that might be better. I'm guessing that a 600 to 800mah pack will last for more than 2 hours.

The slot is for a standard 8AA Nicd/Nimh pack, configured as 4 cells (2x2) x 2, stacked. So, a traditional pack found in just about every transmiter made.

Jim has very high standards for the radio quality simply due to safety... I think we should just let him run his own project, when it's ready it'll be tested and ready.
This equipment will be used to control large scale gas airplanes and jet aircraft capable of 200+mph. This is flight critical software, as much so as the software used in the aerospace industry. It should be tested and certified as per the guidelines of DO-178-B.

Yes, Bob - like that!

The RF portion of the flight control firmware has not changed since 2005, and I don't expect it to ever change. Since the transmitter input is all new, that does need to meet certain regulations for UAV use.

2 life cells 18mmx65 mm side by side will fit in the place of a 8 cell nicad pack
(4x4x2 ) thats what in the JR XG11 you fit them on the diagonal
