Antenna tracking with Stinger Mondo 5.8 TX

Hi all

Ive tried everything i can think off and i cannot get my 5.8ghz Stinger 500mw TX to co-operate with with my Skylark AAT. (i use the yellowjacket pro 5.8gh diversity RX)

What i am assuming the problem is, is that the TX is not transmitting the audio channel correctly so the AAT is not receiving the data. The manuals for the transmitters are all conflicting this one i.e

indicates that i should just hook the audio out from the OSD to the line level input.

but the specs on the TX here

indicate that there are 1vpp Audio pads that i should solder the audio input to.

I dont think that its anything to do with the receiving end as i use the 2.4ghz yellowjacket pro diversity receiver with my lawmate TX and it all works fine.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

hi all,

question withdrawn,

either my vTX or my vRX has the the left and right audio reversed...

Aussie... yeah i was sick of waiting for immersion to get there 600mw out, iv since ordered two. im currently using CP antenna with the 12db gain helical went out to 1km before i realised my antenna tracker wasnt working and came back. had perfect video the whole time so im hoping my setup will give me 3-6km range, which is all i need

Mmm, same, pricey bugga but if it works reliably it's a option to the over clocked FT 5.8G

bad news

I went out to maiden with fully functioning antenna tracking (actually to be fair tracking was maybe 20 degrees of horizontally(need to recalibrate)) with stated 40degrees antenna beam width, and only got 1.2 km. picture was crystal until the last 50 meters then it became so bad i though i was going to loose my plane. I am going to swap over to my foxtech 5.8ghz 200mw system and see how that performs because admittedly i am in the middle of the city and noise could be pretty bad. I will post results when the rain eases up and i can get out to test (results will be before i recalibrate the antenna tracker to ensure consistancy).

If they turn out better anyone want to buy a yellow jacket pro rx and stinger tx for 700 bucks :P

If I can regularly go out 1-2km on your garden variety hobbyking 5.8/200 on CL/SPW antennas, then you should be able to achieve at least that too

I've just converted my 1/5th car to fpv & I'm going to do some 5.8 antenna range testing, mostly for my own curiousity... what may be of interest to you is that I'm using a hobbyking 5.8/500mw vTx... if this 500mw unit does ok, particularly in the reliability stakes, then I'll be trying the same vTx in the air doing the same antenna range tests...
Car is on my blog
Hey mate

Tested out the 200mw foxtech 5.8 gear today with 2km range with no problems, was the exact same plane and exact same ground station with only the TX and RX being different. I just got a couple of 600mw immersion TX's i plan on giving a go, but don't really have high hopes. The popular belief that the Skyrf modules are more sensitive or have much better noise reduction capabilites, is, as far as i am concerned 100% true.

also why would you go 5.8ghz for land based gear? i would have thought 1.2 circular would be WAY better. lower frequency = more range + more object penetration + less reflection.... also add in circular and i think it would be a down right winner. especially in favour is the fact that the bulky 1.2ghz antenna on a ground vehicle wont matter so much.

either way am looking forward to hearing your results

having said all that, i suppose its the same reason i chose 5.8 to fiddle with instead of 1.2...

but having said that, i doubt youd have an OSD with GPS on your car to make 1.2 more difficult :P
