NEU pun intended!

Well...went and did it My LHS owner gave me a killer deal on a 1515/1Y and I just couldn't resist. Another customer stiffed him on an order almost 2 years ago and the motor has sat in the box burried in the store...until today $230.00...Thanks Jack!

I know the kv is a little high but with the right prop and battery it is a "big block."

The numbers in the motor calc look good on 4S with my 7x13 folders.
We shall see...still have another "big block" coming from across the pond

Vents & Motor

Well the reversed NACA vents are remains to be seen if they will work or not
This motor (1515) is just to large for a heat sink in this application...wish I had the ability to monitor the motor temp in flight in real time Will probably start testing on it with 3S then move to 4.
Made a 4500 4S2P today should work fine and fits the Fuz well

Cooling Works

It was a good night..not good for flying but I went anyway...hate the wind here...but love how it slows the plane down for landing

The reason for flying tonight was primarily to see if the attempts to get more air out of the motor area and the use of a heat sink would work

Well I'm happy to report that they did The outside temp was nearly the same as my last motor case measurements so that was good. I tried to fly a similar pattern with 4 or 5 WOT passes and mixed flying in between. Upon landing I quickly measured the case temp and found 185F The average about 35 degree reduction

The motor is still holding up at 5S and the amps on WOT passes have remained the same between 103 and 109. The rotor appears to have survived the overheating (285F) of 6S. 6S is out for this motor (650 Typhoon)

Static motor tests tomorrow for the NEU...made a 3S2P 3600 65C and a 4S2P 4500 40C for the tests. Will start with APC 7x9 and go from there to the 7x13 folders.

Tried spoilerons tonight for the first time ever and was delightfully surprised at the results..will give a definate opinion when the wind is not as strong...but I actually had to give it some throttle on the approach to make the field...never had to do that before

NEW MONSTER 1.1 on the way from Germany and a "big block" motor on the way from CZ. Should be an interesting summer

Wow Arcticflyer, you're REALLY getting into some fun power system stuff now!

Love the plan for the 1515 1Y on 4S. Should get you around 28K with decent battery voltage.

Hmm... 28K on a 7x10 gets you 265mph pitch speed.
I think you better practice turning your head very quickly.

Will be very great to get your flight reports on a known high quality motor so that you can make good judgements on how these large inrunners can cope when running in a Speedcup-type application.

I want to see if I can bolt up a Neu 1915 or 1917 to the front of a Ninja Speed.
Something in my gut says these large diameter, short can motors will be the most efficient and still be able to dump heat for huge power.

25K on 7x10 in flight already requires 2,5 Kw.
Static power would be arround 3,5 Kw and 250 A at 4S.
No way to reach 28K at 4S.

Arcticflyer, i think you have to cut down your 7x10 to about 6x10!

Yeah, over 250A would be pushing it for the Ice Lite 200. It may be alright though if partial throttle is kept to a minimum, and the NACA scoops work some real good magic.

Get an ICE 200 with heat sink.

Like you haven't dropped enough bills on this project!

I have already decided not to look back at all the receipts in reference to this project because it is still far from over The ole DX7 is starting to show its age as well.

Need some real time amps, volts and temps! Since I am locked in to Spektrum... due to the crazy amount of receivers that I looks like their telemetry will have to do. Would really like to see them come out with something that plugs in to the USB on a laptop like Hitech has. Then a partner could monitor the vitals! And no I don't want an IPhone!

The DX7S has caught my eye...don't need amillion channels...cause I won't be flying any "whirly birds" or crazy scale each his own Just wanna go really fast before my eyes won't let me anymore

Ordered some 7x10APC's from AMainHobbies yesterday...largest I have is 7x9.
Props are a definate issue but some good things are happening in that area

Hopefully Andi will have the Monster 1.1 version done by the end of this week and that thing will start its trip across the pond next week

Spent the day making capitol improvements on the vents...a little deeper towards the nose and removable...tiny screws...just a bit of parasitic drag which we will attempt to simply OVERPOWER! found some fake carbon covering so they match the plane now..gotta have some "BLING."

Murdo - Didn't know you were building a Ninja it's a "FAST PLANE"...with a big motor

The Ice 200 will fit in both it is a consideration if I go higher on the cell count

Holly Cow!

Mreyello - you were right...218AMPS with 3S on the 7x13 folders
then it dawned on me (it's not a 7x13 with the 45mm spinner) it
is an 8x13

Here are some static numbers that I got tonight on the beasty NEU 1515/1Y

3S 7x13 folders:
volts 12.4max
Amps 218 max
RPM's 18164 max
Watts 2209
Motor temp after 107F
(3) 3 to 4 second WOT's

3S 7x9 APC:
volts 11.8
Amps 138 max
RPM's 20665
Watts 1461 max
Motor temp after 95F
(3) 3 to 4 second WOT's

4S 7x9 APC:
volts 15.8
Amps 199.7 max
RPM's 24480 max
Watts 2589 max
Motor temp after 100F
(2) 3 to 4 second WOT's (then the batteries started pooping out,
2 old 4S Rhino's beyond their years)

Man I wish those 7x10's from AMain would get here yesterday...not

I like this MOTOR

I've been loving this thread for a minute now. It's inspired me to do something similar with Triffik. I was leaning towards the MVS Redliner but someone mentioned one of the Mega motors. I'm also using folders (7x4 - 9x6) and no more than 6S (2x3S in Series) but mostly 3S and 4S. The only difference is I'm looking to fly it like a Hotliner / Pylon racer. Great project BTW!

Mega's are good motors! I have a 16/30/2 which has been used and abused for nearly three years. Had to rewind it once as the wires were pulled out from the back in a crash. Service and turn around time were great.
This is my first NEU...can tell already that I'm going to like them as well!

Right here:

You have to call them for the order and explain your application.

New Monster on the way!

YEEEE a tracking number this morning from Andi at HJK. The new Monster 1.1 is on the way

The current Monster now has the NEU 1515/1Y inside, 7x9APC and 4S to get things going. APC 7x10's are on the way

The bad thing about the APC's will be broken props on landing Once settled on a maxed out setup will have to order a bunch of props.
