Thanks for posting the pics Shaun. Looks like there will be just enough room (maybe) for a 4S lipo. Have you had a chance to run up the fan?

Yes thanks for the pics. Unless that battery bay extends back further it looks like a 3s 3600mah might be a bit if a tight squeeze.

When you get her all assembled can you do a balance check with the 3s 2200mah.

Looking forward to your flight review and maiden experiences as i have a v70 on the way from the second batch.

The battery bay does go back about another 25mm, you may be able to put a larger battery on it's side, but don't forget you need to fit the Rx and the esc, I just tried 4s 2200mah should fit and I reckon a 4s 2650mah Nano after that it starts to get a bit queezey IMO, I am planning to use the standard 3s 3300mah.

She has arrived the box is small, much smaller than I anticipated, of course I had to open, she is packed in typical Durafly fashion which it is well packed and not damage at all, my first impression is it looks a bit small but it does have a very slender body and you can see it is made to go fast, this model is not carrying and fat it is very sleek. As Scott mentioned the EPO is hard and it is like a composite, the build is not going to take long maybe 15 mins in a rush as the ailerons are already connected, the Zephyr looks to be made sturdy and with the Durafly quality we have come to expect, here are the photo's:

The manual is in some colour and looks to be very simple to read, also there is a manual to program the esc, I have put the 3s 2200mah as a reference guide only as I am waiting for my batteries to arrive tomorrow and hope for maiden Saturday. So far as per usual Scott the Durafly Zephyr looks to be fantastic and well designed great job, now just have to wait for my DH88 to roll up.

All the best,

Shaun.
Enjoy!

The canopy is deceptive, I could and did squeeze a 3300mAh 4s pack in there, the Lipo stands up as Shaun has noted.

Thanks for the pics, Shaun!

Does it look like you could squeeze in another 3S 2200 pack to put in parallel?

Sorry mate, there is no way you are going to fit 2 3s 2200 mah batteries in parallel.

With a 3300 pack, 3s or 4s plus the ESC and Rx, its going to be a tight fit. Not much air volume in there for airflow cooling around the components. I know now that there is a hole in the back, but you have to have flow. ESC may overheat. For those of you that have purchased this plane, let us know if you have any cooling issues.

If heat is an issue, a good solution would be to carve out a small "reverse" NACA duct in the foam where the top trailing edge of the canopy meets the foam fuselage.

Or, another solution would be to drill a small hole (10mm) in the top rear portion of the canopy itself.

No need to worry about putting holes in behind the canopy because HobbyKing have already done it, there are 2 holes in the nose (low) and one in the back of the compartment (high), plus the fan will suck some air through the canopy, with proper placement of battery, Rx and esc there should not be a problem.
