Man, I've been so busy with all the other stuff going on that I realized I've completely ignored this thread???? You guys sure have done a great job with these little UB's. Heck, I may just have to build one...

Nice lookin bipe jpflier. Can you give me any details on the landing gear? I fly off pavement and grass both. Love doing touch -n-goes. Looks like I won't be able to maiden mine till Wed, darn winds.

Landing gear

I will try to get some pics later, but I will try to explain. I use 1/32 plywood epoxied on each side of the fuse. At the top of the ply I drill two holes about 1/8 apart the diameter of the wire I am using for the gear. Towards the bottom of the plywood I drill a larger hole 1/8 to 3/16 depending on wire size again. There is a 90 degree bend in the top of wire landing gear that slides into the upper holes allowing the gear to fit flush with the side of the fuse. One gear from each side of the fuse. Then I loop a small nylon tie around both gear legs and through the hole and zip them tip. It's light strong and easy.

you can get more power and longer life by re-soldering the motor (RLC 4.8V) to series. you then have a 9.6 volt motor. put heat sinks on it and use a 3 cell li-poly 700 mah. with throtle management you should have no problems and lots of power

Both motors would see the same current but voltage would be based on the motors impedance - right?

Same power produced?

This is confusing

Nippy 0808 and Timing Advance

What did you set the Electronic Timing Advance on the Nippy 0808 setup? High advance, Standard Advance (default), or Low advance? I'm guessing Low advance is out since that gives least power. Thanks.

We used the default settings for everything except LVC was set to 7.2 for 3 cells.

Maiden Flight - News at 10

Maidened my UB this morning and it flew great! Ok, I lied, I didn't fly it for this picture, but my buddy SDan did. I can't do 3D yet, so why did I build it, to learn silly! I got a lil stick time tho. Completly different from the Tiger Moth I'm use to flyin. Here is a shot of her this morning.

Where does it all end?
Hey Guys, I have mine built, and trying to decide on how to power it. I have a IPS-D A 7.2v and 2cells etec 700's, but I am thinking of powering it with a IPS "c" and possibly 3x340kokams. I built it out of 6mil for fuse and 3 mil everywhere else, 3 hs-55's. I want a setup for good hovering but slow enough for small gym flying. Anyone got any opinions? Thanks in advance.

I powered mine initially with an IPS A, but have switched to the 50 cent, Johnson 250 motor from in a GWS C gearbox with an 11 x 4.7 prop. If you want lots of power at an unbelievably low price, this is the only way to go.

Is that the GWS EPS-100C gearbox?

How does the weight compare to the IPS drive and what kind of prop and amp draw are yo seeing?

bmizes - This sounds real interesting...
Do you have weights and mounting info? How about some pictures and flight reports?
