Question

Which F-4 Phantom ?

Hello,

I am looking for suggestions for an F-4 Phantom kit. It must be able to take retracts, not be too expensive, ideally have a 64-90 size fan or twin fans.

I have seen the e-flight one that looks very nice, but it is pretty expensive when you add the cost of all the extras you need to complete it.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Duncan

Don's kit looks amazing, I just don't think I would have the time to do it justice. Ideally, something a bit more built up and ARF would suit me I think.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Off the top of my head:
HET F-4 (ARF)
Eflite - as you have seen.

Then there's a bunch of pretty good looking EPOs these days, that'll fit your requirement - apart from being foam.

If you want to scratch build:
Offshore F-4 (plans + canopy)
There's also a few plans posted here on RCG - you'll find them with a search.

And.....

As mentioned above, there are foamies. NitroPlanes has the old FMS F-4 that they sell as their Airfield brand. It's EPS, so durability isn't its strong suite, but it flies very well, takes any number of 70mm setups, and looks very scale-like. It will also take retracts with careful modification. There are 2 threads in here that deal with it - one is the Hobby Lobby F-4, and the other is the Airfield F-4. Will try to give you links later... or just do a quick search in the Foamy EDF section.

If you are not going foam or kit then you need to go Eflite. The rest are going to need tons of modifications to get them to fly correctly! The nitro planes one does nothing but crash....Eflite will have a proven, easy to setup, reliable and balanced aircraft once it is finally released

In Australia, the E=Flight is simply too expensive.

Has anybody tried the ProJet 70mm?

Airshow RC has the FlyFly 90mm F4, seems to fly nice: http://www.airshowrc.com/f-4_phantom...rf_foam_j.html

No doubt others have it too, I just don't know who they are

The ProJet seems to have something of a reputation.... never have seen one, so can't testify to that.

No problem.

Everyone has an opinion. Even regarding the FMS F-4.

If your refering to the projet/nitroplanes model show me a video of one that flys well. I hate to see people discouraged from the hobby by buying something that seems doomed to start. The same goes for prodesign but if gotten acouple of them to fly after lots of modifications.

No way am I referring to the ProJet! I did say FMS twice above; yes, it's a foamy; yes, it's a 70mm (also stated above). The ProJet is another dog altogether - and my suggestion was to the Airfield/FMS single 70mm foamy.

Definitely NOT the ProJet. Also said that one has something of a reputation. See above.

OK? Foamy, single 70mm, Airfield/FMS. Not a bad plane at all. Very flyable. Can be modded but certainly not required.

Peace, bub.

EDIT: Here - a link to the Airfield FOAMY F4: http://www.nitroplanes.com/93a04-air...ygrey-kit.html

Have you considered the fly-fly F-4, I know its foam but you can glass it if you want that composite look and strength, would be kick ass with a hot 8 cell system.

ExtremeRC.com.au sell it as well as the HET one, and there fly fly kits come with electric retracts standard and no shipping costs as price is to your door direct from factory
